The movie is ending. We are now beginning to add the next sequel to our lives. Some of us have already seen the previews. Our cast of friends will change. New faces will appear, and some will stay the same. We are not only the writers and direc- tors of our futures, we are the stars. There can be no understudies. The work we have done will be reviewed; parts will be criticized, and parts will be praised. Many of us will go on to win awards and achieve fame. It is our hope that as we go on in life. Echo 1985 will provide a brief look back into the past — back into 1985, our year, our time, and the " movie” we all made together. Audrey Fusco Editor, Echo ' 85 2 To Sir, With Love The graduating class of 19H5 takes great pride in dedicating this yearbook to Mr. Dennis Girard. In 1982 we entered Enfield High School as all other anxious underclassmen do; yet, we had an advantage other classes did not have. The familar face of Mr. Girard came with us to Enfield High School. At John F. Kennedy Junior High School we had just begun to know and love " Gil” Girard. Mr. Girard has taught English for seventeen years, three of them have been here at Enfield High School. Since our freshman year he has given so much to our class. He has been with us on class trips, proms, and class nights, and this year he is our much- valued senior class advisor. The first things that come to mind when we think of Mr. Girard are his friendly personality, his abundance of understanding, and most of all his outstanding talents as a teacher. Mr. Girard transcends the level of teaching because he truly cares about his students, and he will leave a lasting impres- sion on all of us. iWkbdle Bouscfuet Movies liave become an important part of our lives. Thev reflect the times, the people, and the changes in today’s societv. That is whv we felt that " movies " would be a titting theme tor Echo 85. X ' e set the stage tor the opening scene ot this vearbook on August 7. 1984, when a group ot seniors went to the East Windsor Drive-In. These pictures are just a preview ot some ot the tinest moments trom our senior year. We hope this vearbook has recorded our tondest memories at Entield High School. We don’t want these times to be " Gone With the Wind ” but a permanent memorv ot " The Wav We Were. ” Ltumi Cinscnulra Kim Mcii’ io lim ENFIELD HIGH Presents ' The SCHOOL Class of 1985” 3 The Stars cf the Class cf 8 ii New Shewing ji 15 CLASS OFFICERS James Carden Treasurer iA-S we look back through the years and remember all the I things we have done, it seems like so much time has 1 passed, but really our lives have just begun. We are on our own once again. Through our school years we have ac- ' complished so much and have made many special friends. i We came here to Enfield High School all alone, but we I leave together to search out our dreams and to make the! most out of our futures. The one thing that we will always I have are the memories of our school years, but the fondest I moments will be of our senior year. Because we are the P close class of 1985, we will remember the fun we had j building the float, the great time we had at our prom and ! Class Night, and the laughs we shared at the Variety Show. 1 these are the special moments we will cherish forever. We will remember all the good times we shared with our friends as well as the rewards of our hard work these past four years which will enable us to fulfill our future goals. I want to wish you all the best in life, whatever you do, and may all of your aspirations and dreams come true. In addition, the Foreign Language Department feels that learning other languages helps one understand and use his or her own language more accurately and effectively. French, German, and Spanish are taught in an approach that is audio-visual with emphasis on the sounds of grammar patterns of the spoken language. Latin is also presented in a dynamic manner with audio-visual materials that help the student to develop a better cultural understanding of classical antiquity and its implications in the present. 73 Mathematics Mr. Robert Bromage Department Chairperson In recognition of the vital roles that mathematics and computers play in our lives, the Enfield High School Mathematics Department offers a varied and exten- sive program of studies. Student art work was continually on exhibit throughout the building for the pleasure of the entire student body and staff. This has been a good year for field trips and guest speakers as well. We know that this year filled with change and challenge has helped the students of Enfield High School to grow and develop their self-expression. We will miss those of you who are leaving us and hope you will carry fond memories of our Art Department. Physical Education Miss Kathleen Gendall r. 5 1 1 ; 7 ‘ " In an attempt to meet the changing needs and interests of students, the Physical Education Department offers a wide variety of activities. These activities include many individual and team sports. Tenth grade students participate in a struc- tured program which includes both team and in- dividual sports with emphasis on fundamentals and knowledge to prepare them for selection of ac- tivities as juniors and seniors. Juniors and seniors are required to take physical education and also have the opportunity to select from a wide range of activities that are offered. The emphasis at this level will be to further acquaint students with numerous activities and to help define their skills for a lifetime of physical activity. 79 Family Living Regardless of ethnic and economic backgrounds, we all share certain commonalities; we are all part of a family, and we are all consumers. However, many individuals do not have an opportunity to understand or develop the skills necessary to deal with problems related to ourselves, our families, and society in general. The department of Family Living and Consumer Education focuses upon the individual and seeks to develop self-awareness through a variety of courses dealing with many aspects of our personal and social lives. Course offerings include Independent Living, Family and Society, Parenting and Child Development, and Career Planning, as well as courses in the areas of food and clothing.
