Their support was wel- comed and quite often needed. Mrs. Doris Coughlin, Mr. Richard Mazur, and Mr. Leo Porcello gave advice, encour- agement, and support: but most of all, they gave of them- selves, spending precious time on our beach trip. Homecom- ing Floats, fund raisers, and our Senior Class Trip to Florida. Being the 100th graduating class of Enfield High School, we the Class of 1979, dedicate our yearbook to each of them as a way of expressing our gratitude for their unselfish devotion to our class. Thank you, Mrs. Coughlin, Mr. Mazur, and Mr. Porcello. Mrs. Doris Coughlin The time has come for the class of 1979 to leave Enfield High School. Hov ever, it is a bittersweet good-bye. Bitter, because we are leaving the security of loving friends and a familiar environ- ment: sweet, because we know in our hearts that the time has come for us to leave and that we are ready for the parting. We have come of age, realizing that we have attained our highest high school aspirations and are now ready to seek other fields to conquer. Enfield has matured since its conception, celebrating its cen- tennial this year, and we, the class of 1979, are proof of its maturation. With a firm grasp on our past, and with steadfast determination, we are ready to face the future. Debbie Patsky, James Desrosiers KjSffiiiBd H ■■•IB’ . B ■ K H H ■ii« B| B 101 V ■«K( llil B a« ' . I can think of no previous class that deserves this double distinction. As I look back upon my years at Enfield High School, I recall many fond memories that will stay with our class for years to come. I remember teachers and administrators, along with parents, who have carefully ground the lens through which we will view our futures. Yet, I feel that my fondest memories will revolve around the friendships I have been able to share and enjoy. Graduation, as we will soon see, does not mean the end of our educational careers. For those going on to higher education this is all too obvious. Those who choose to pursue a vocation will find continual education necessary to keep up with the changing times. Whichever road you choose, be sure to live each day to its fullest. Remember that there is always more to be learned and goals rarely beyond our reach. Spread sunshine and happiness wherever you may jour- ney, for the phases of our lives cannot be captured in what we do today, but will be reflected by what we accomplish in years to come. It has been an honor representing the class of 1979 as president. I wish you, my fellow class- mates, the ability to overcome every obstacle and reach your highest goals. Never be afraid to try. We, the Class of ' 79, have great wisdom and potential, and this, along with the faith and belief in ourselves, will enable us to reach our highest goals and dreams. And in between times, while reaching for our brightest stars, let us look back upon all the good times and laughs we all had — and then smile — for those memories are well worth it. CHEERLEADING Cheerleading is a very demanding sport. It takes a lot of dedication and hard work to support many different teams for two full seasons. Fortu- nately, all of us have the time and dedication it takes to fully support our school. All of the hard work and long hours of practice pay off when we see the great culmination of spirit produced at a sporting event. The great enthusiasm that the student body emanates gives us the inner satisfaction deserv- ing of our spirited efforts. Sitting, left to right: Karen Bell, Karen Guimond, Lori Spazzarini, and Terri Provost. Kneeling: Brenda Richards, Kathy Stack, Michelle Beaulieu, Co-captain Patty Keyes, Debbie Patsky, and Co-captain Sue Downs. Standing: Tracy Daniels, Sharon Smith, Jill Raynor, Sheila Martin, Anita Williams, Linda Driscoll. Kathy Arrowsmith, Sue Franklin. Tammy Belanger, Kathy Dippel, Debbie Christenson, and Coach Franklin. VOLLEYBALL The Enfield High Volleyball team battled through a tough season. With only being a second year team the girls managed to get 3 wins. The Varsity Team j finished with a 3 and 15 record. While the Junior l Varsity Team had an outstanding season. Their re- cord was 15 and 3. Coach Marian Dippel looks for- ward to an experienced team next year. All will be returning except for seniors Kathy Stack, Mic helle Beaulieu, Patty Keyes, and Debbie Patsky. Kneeling, left to right: Roberta Massey, Co-captain Chris Coughlin, Co-captain Alison LaRochelle, Sue Reynolds, and Sandy Mitchell. Standing: Coach Bromage, Jackie Reynolds, Maura Coughlin, Jamie Rotatory, Nancy Wood, Judy Roy, Alaine Lagasse, Lisa Strom, Tammy Daniels, and Cheryl Beebe. FIELD HOCKEY When we first started our season we were individ- ualist and not a team. As our season progressed we became a working unit, as a team should be. By gaining maturity and self-confidence in our ability we found ourselves in the midst of a winning season. Through hard work and dedication many goals were achieved for ourselves and Mrs. Bro- mage. By compiling an 8-4-4 record overall we qualified for the State Tournament. The Tournament is like a new season. Knowing we could be eliminated in one game made it hard to keep our spirit alive. Our first game was against Westhill of Stamford and our spirit was very much alive. Although hard fought, we lost 2 - 0 . We learned much in our season, and it shows in us as we leave it all behind. Alison LaRochelle Chris Coughlin Sitting, left to right: Mike Snow, John Rush, John O ' Brien, Co-captain Pete Maznicki, Kevin Green, Ken Miller, and Dave Linehan. Standing: Coach Teed, Wayne Warburton, Bill Teed, Lou Bachetti, Rich Jute, Ed Tersavich, Mike Malley, Jeff Wheeler, Kevin Zukowski, Craig Newsam, Rick Canino, Rick Wages, and Asst. Coach Sullivan. SOCCER Enfield High’s Soccer Team had a dynamic 1978 season! A triumphant 12-3 record placed them sec- ond in the CCIL. Returning Seniors Dave Linehan, Ken Miller, Mike Snow, Scott Zachary, John Rush, Kevin Green, John O’Brien, and Captain Pete Maznicki shaped the nu- cleus of the team while juniors and sophomores filled out the squad. Coach Bill Teed, a ten year veteran, got his team " hustling” this year, and the result was a block bust- ing over all season. A disappointing 3-2 loss to New Canaan in tournament play was the team’s only setback. Enfield High has always had outstanding soccer teams and this year’s seniors are proud to be part of that tradition. Sitting, left to right: Manager Kerry Buckley, Holly Boucher, Co-captain Lynn Wagner, Co-captain Bernadette Healy, and Manager Beth Wagner. Standing: Robin Morgandahl, Kerri Shea, Ellen Vitkauskas, Kim Hitchcock, Erin Keegan, Paula Kweder, Beth Nicewicz, Lisa Oneto, Sandy Valle, Dorreen McKiernan, and Coach Fenton. SWIMMING The 1978 Girls Swim Team was coached by Bob Fenton. Captains were Lynn Wagner and Bernadette Healy. Managers were Kerri Buckley and Beth Wag- ner. This was our most successful season. Among the 3 victories was Enfield’s first win over Fermi. The score was 92 to 80. The new school records are: 200 Medley Relay-2: 1 1.4-Lisa Kempton, Paula Kweder, Lisa Oneto, and Kerry Shea 200 Individual Medley-2:46-Lisa Oneto Diving-1 86-Erin Keegan 100 Butterfly-1 :15-Paula Kweder 500 Freestyle-6:44-Lynn Wagner 100 Backstroke-l:17. 4-Lisa Kempton 100 Breaststroke-1: 18.3-Lisa Oneto 400 Freestyle Relay 4:24 Joanne McGowan, Beth Nicewicz, Paula Kweder, and Lynn Wagner Sitting, left to right: Manager Paula Bednar, Rick Downs, John Maznicki, Larry Herter, Pat Wilcox, Cliff Gumkowski, Jim Bedard, Rudy Beaupre, Rick Coverdill, Pete King, Tim Mooney, Steve Piescik, Jay Wheeler, and Manager Loretta Dunagin. FOOTBALL We began our season this year expecting some changes. We were a team that saw two consecu- tive losing seasons, so we worked harder than perhaps any football team at E.H.S. We knew the price of victory and we were prepared to pay for it. Our team of Green Raiders dropped the first three contests of the seasons, but staged the greatest comeback a team could ever muster. We started out with a 14-0 victory over Hall High, something no other E.H.S. football team has ever done. From there on every game became “the most important game of our life. " The two most memorable games were the wins over Simsbury and Windham. We downed the Trojans 22-6, and crushed the Whippets 52-34, where Quarterback Jay Wheeler threw for 300 yards to make a new E.H.S. record: This year’s success is due to a man who worked I just as hard as the team, who felt the losses as well as the victories, perhaps harder than any- one. That man is Coach Joe Bacewicz. He was voted Coach of the Year in the CCIL and justly deserved it. The Seniors of ' 79 would like to wish the future teams of E.H.S. good luck and hope they work hard for their goals, because there is no sweeter victory than one worked for. 178 Sitting, left to right: Captain Chris Coughlin and Captain Allison LaRochelle. Kneeling: Sue Reynolds, Patty Keyes, and Dolores George. Standing: Manager Kathy Stack, Maura Coughlin, Elaine Lagasse, Tracy Daniels, Coach Bromage, Brenda Kearney, Sue Downs, Tina Giachello, and Manager Maryann Bacewicz. 180 GIRLS’ BASKETBALL As our season started, each member of the team had her own purpose and her own goals. Although these goals were varied, we managed to stay together as a team. There were two games that highlighted our sea- son; our game against Fermi followed the winning trend of the past. We have not lost to Fermi in several years. On the other hand, we beat Sims- bury for the first time in 4 years. There were five seniors on the team and each contributed her own talents. We all learned from each other during the season and that made it a good experience. for everyone. Chris Coughlin BOYS’ BASKETBALL standing, left to right: Lou Bachetti, Ron Devine, Jeff Maier, Captain Jay Wheeler, Captain Courtney McLaughlin, Ed Danek, Jeff Wheeler, Mike Maier, and Steve Cerrato. The boy’s Varsity Basketball team suffered a season of disappointing losses. Led by Coach Bro- mage and Captain Jay Wheeler, the Raiders showed that spirit and perseverance meant much more than being a first place team. They found friendships that can never be replaced. Leaving the team this year are Senior centers Steve Kur- maskie, and Ed Danek, Guard Ron Devine, and Forwards, Jay Wheeler and Courtney McLaughlin. Their absence will be greatly missed by Juniors, Steve Cerrato and Mike Maier. Sophomores, Jeff Maier, Jeff Wheeler, Lou Bachetti and Dave Mor- ton. Sitting, left to right: Manager Val Martin, Dan Hebb, and Manager Cindy Lorino. Kneeling: Scott Merrill, Scott Zachary, Mike Snow, Rudy Beaupre, Mike Triba, Kevin Hart, and Tom Boyle. Standing: Coach Lucius, Tom Davis, Mark Gallo, Rick Canino, Steve Brennen, Mike Fusco, Doug Wilby, Niel Begley, Jim Martocchio, Kyle Martin, Norm Bolanger, Mark Chamberlain, Manager Mary Jo Lorino, and Coach Parker. WRESTLING The Varsity Wrestling Team under the inspired leadership of Coach Kirk Parker and Senior cap- tain Dan Hebb posted a highly competive and successful season. Because of fine coaching and a great amount of self-dedication and determina- tion the team grew outstandingly tough in every weight class. In addition to Dan Hebb seniors Lenny Pazik, Scott Merrill, Scott Zachary, Mike Snow, and Rudy Beaupre formed a strong back- bone for the rest of the team. Their fondness and the great devotion toward the sport demonstrat- ed how teamwork results in a winning season. The highlight of the year occurred in the meet between Hall High and Enfield. With extra deter- mination Enfield beat Hall by a proud score of 31- 28. If the returning wrestlers continue to get the kind of quality and dedicat ion provided by this year’s seniors the prospects for the future look bright. Coach Kirk Parker who has devoted much time and effort to establish a quality varsity team should be congratulated for his coaching skills and personal interest in his team members. 184 First row, left to right: Glen Blackwood, Tom Aube, Mike Cirillo, Bob Foley, Chris Chaput, Wayne Warburton, Rick Fleming. Second row, left to right: Ron Scavotto, Wayne Gegenheimer, George McDonough, Kevin Theriault, Bob Hughes, Tom Grigely, Steve Meunier, Coach Phil Clarkin. Back row: Matt Janney, Dwayne Cirillo, Stephen Peuker, Mark Patsky, Gordon Massey, and Mark Peuker. HOCKEY The Enfield High Ice Hockey Team has a win- ning season this year which earned them a spot in Division II of the State Tournament for the second consecutive year. The team, coached by Mr. Phil Clarkin assisted by Mr. Bill Ferguson, was very fortunate to have senior co-captain Rick Fleming, Glen Blackwood and Tom Aube as powerful skating wings, giving the team balance on all lines. The goaltending of Bob Foley, with three shutouts, and the fine de- fensive work of Mike Cirillo along with junior Mark Patsky and sophomores Ron Scavatto, Duane Cirillo and Mark Peuker gave Enfield the lowest goals against average in the Northern Connecti- cut high school area. Enfield also placed four skaters in the list of top area scorers. Along with senior Rick Fleming, are juniors Bob Hughes, Matt Janney and Stephan Peuker. The hockey team looks forward to another ex- citing year with an excellent chance at the CCIL Championship with seven juniors and seven soph- omores returning to the Varsity team. Sitting, left to right: Manager, Lynn Wagner, Frank Halish, Scott Franklin, Jim Folger, Alex Roswier, and Manager Doreen McKiernan. Second row: Mitch Brantner, Gary Shredginsky, Mike Irish, Gary Quint, Fran Costanza, and Coach Bob Fenton. Back row: Greg Rawson, Brian Kinney, Mike Reardon, and John Lipinski. BOYS’ SWIMMING The 1979 Swim Team, coached by Mr. Robert Fenton, had its best season ever. Their success was due to fine performances by Seniors: Mike Reardon in the Medley Relay, 50 yd. Freestyle and 100 yd. Backstroke: Jim Folger in the Medley Relay, 500 yd. Freestyle and 200 yd. Freestyle; Alex Roseweir in the Medley Relay and the 100 yd. Breaststroke: Mitch Brantner and Scott Franklin in Diving; and Frank Halish in the 50 and 100 yd. Freestyle. The seniors were supported by strong efforts by the underclassmen, notably: Ju- nior Greg Rawson in the Medley Relay, the 200 yd. Individual Medley and the 100 yd. Butterfly; Junior Gary Shredginsky in the 200 yd. Freestyle and the 100 yd. Breaststroke: Junior Brian Kin- ney in the 200 and 500 yd. Freestyle; Junior Fran Costanzo in the 200 yd. Individual Medley: Soph- omore Gary Quint in the 100 yd. Breaststroke; Sophomore John Lipinsky in the 200 and 500 yd. Freestyle; and Sophomore Mike Irish in the 50 and 100 yd. Freestyle. The loss of Co-Captains Jim Folger and Mike Reardon, and the rest of the Seniors will be felt greatly by the rest of the team next year. 188 Kneeling, left to right: Brian Kinney, Chris McNamara, and Captain Jim Desrosiers. Standing: Coach Barmak, Francis Costanza, Joe Wojas, Mike Gregonis, Neil Begley, Ed McGuinness, Mike Beck, and Manager Sandy Lucas. CROSS COUNTRY The Cross Country Team had a difficult year having a winless season. The final re- cord, however, does not show the hard work and many obstacles faced by the boys on the team. The team put in many hours of hard work. They are looking forward to next year with great expecta- tions. Losing only one runner this year. Sen- ior Jim Desrosiers, they count on having many new recruits to help them to a victori- ous season next year. 190 PATRONS Tina Colarusso Eva Milotte Mr. Mrs. Fred Bauer Shannon Plude Alice Plude Warren Plude Pam Eastman Michelle Pelletier Kim Calano Mr. Mrs. John Patsky The Wahl Family Lauri Jordan Donna Larson Snobyrd " Z " Lori Golden Marie Torre Kim Sullivan The Adelberg Family Temp Taz Good luck to our little buddies Love Cathy and Audrey Mr. Mrs. James Finn Stumper The Lowe Family Lenny Pazik Karen Leonard Hoover Mr. Mrs. R.
