AUGUSTUS BALDWIN LONGSTREET. Born in Augusta, Georgia, September 20, 1790; died in Oxford, Mississippi, July 9, 1870. Attended Richmond Academy, Augusta: grad. uated from Yale and studied law at Litchfield, Connecticut. He was in succession a lawyer, preacher, writer, jurist, college president, orator, sportsman, farmer, editor and business man. His best known writing is GEORGIA SCENES, a series of hu- morous stories of Georgia characters. He was Fresident of , Emory College from l840 to I848. This drawing is one of the Georgia Scenes, depicting the annual muster of Militia.
