THROUGH THE YEARS
It seems lxke yesterday that our Journey began
But forward we pushed to go stralght through
Sornetlmes dlscouraged but on we ran
And d1d the best we knew to do
As the Freshman year went qu1ckly byx
We were young fresh and bold
But after accompl1sh1ng our flrst year o h1g
We were ready for our next goal
As Sophomores w1th courage we began
To put 1nto pract1ce the th1ngs we learned
Stand 1n our way we let no man
For t'was to be a .Tumor that all had yearned
As Jumors w1thJou1ney's end near at last
Eagerly we endeavored to see
Ourselves as the very top class
For t was Semors we longed to be
Now we as Semors h1gh sp1r1ts aglow
Have fa1th to go on, not fall,
And to lxghten a path for the grades below
A plulosophy to be followed by all

TO YOUTHF UL IDEALS
To be or not to be -- that is the
question! We, the members of the
Senior Class, have taken a. positive
determination a nd approach toward
preparing ourselves for our ambi-
tions. They are d r e a m s that will
become a reality! To these am-
bitions, to these i de al s , the entire
graduating class of 1955 proudly de-
decates this Annual.

AND AMBITIONS
A d r eam is a wish your heart
makes when you are asleep. We wish-
ed to become leaders of our Nation.
Lnour dreams we had visions of our-
selves as leaders. These dreams be-
came our ambitions---to become the
persons whom we want to be.

On September 1 1951 a g r oup of one hundred and f1fty four eager freshmen entered the
doors of Emmett Scott Hxgh School Even though we had gone thr ough these doors to Elghth
Grade lt was an ent1rely new adve ntu re to become h1gh school students However, we were
prepared for lt by our parents the commumty and our teachers At f1rst the way was rough
but after a week of or1entat1on we be c ame acqua1nted w1th the rules and regulat1ons for the
new school year Due to the number, we were d1vxded 1nto four sectxons Des1r1ng to see some
of our state, we V1S1t6d our state cap1tal Columb1a, and toured Fort Jackson We were repre
sented 1n var1ous organ1zat1ons mclud1ng the basketball team, the Glee Club the band and G1rl
Scouts Th1s year was a happy and successful one
The mxghty sophomores as we were called our second year started the term offwlth a bang
by elect1ng Verda Cooper a sophomore to represent us as Mzss 1952 1n our annual Chrlst
mas parade Our class was then d1v1ded mto three sectlons We then V1SltCd South Carollna s
oldest c1ty Charleston to see the h1stor1c scenes A new comer to our class was Mable Jones
we became very fond of her At the end of the year Mary Knox and Alburn Chxsholm were se
lected to serve as hostesses at the Juruor Sen1or Prom Charles Sm1th and Grover Dav1s served
as hosts
Our th1rd year found us at the mldpolnt of our h1gh school educat1on, and to our regret we
had lost many m e mbe r s of the class Only seventy s1x remaxned, mak1ng only two sect1ons
Later a fe w Jomed us but d1d not c are to cont1nue We saw Alburn Ch1sholm crowned Mmss
Homecommg w1th Margaret Roach as one of her attendants Th1s was at the close of our football
season dur1ng wh1ch Grover Dav1s Charles Sm1th and Ward Morrow played an lmportant part
In the Chr1stmas parade Ed1th Fraz1er was crowned Chrlstmas Queen Later on 1n the year
all thoughts turned to the on com1ng basketball season The members of our class who part1c1
pated 1n 1nter scholast1c c o m pe t1t 1 o n were John T Bone' Crawford, Ward' Dub 'Morrow
Page Nell1e Mobley and Johnme Mae Jxmerson Our team won the 1ntramural class tournament
After basketball season ended, our thoughts turned to the fxnal events of the school term
The Jumor Class presented a play ent1t1ed Go1ng Places It was a grand adventure stag1ng a
playfor the f1rstt1me The Jumor Sen1or Prom was a boom1ng success' We hltched our wagon
to a star and took a tr1p 1nto the 'W1de Blue Yonder to enjoy an evemng of hllarxous enterta1n
ment wh1ch was 1n mght club style w1th an orchestra, s1ngers and comedlans
Flnally we reached the last year of our h1gh school educat1on wxth only fxfty f1ve members
left wh1ch were two sectlons We who showedfaxth and courage have fulfxlled our desxres There
was an atmosphere of galety that even the thought of study could not d1spel' Many have won fame
