called senior week. All the dress up days were won by
the seniors, the junior girls were defeated in Hag
football, and the seniors captured first place in the float
contest. Their Hoat, depicting a Wolverine in bed, kept in
tune with the theme HSATURDAY NIGHT FEVER".

Tip-off Week 'S 4
Tip-off week 1979 turned out to be
quite a success in many ways. First,
the girls' JV basketball team
captured first place in their district
tournament for the second straight
year. Then, the girls' varsity team
placed first in their tournament and
proceeded to capture fourth place in
the state. As a footnote, the
following week a special assembly
was held to honor retiring Coach Ray T
Mullins after 20 years of coaching. 5
The dress-up days were considered a l
success even though there were only
,f f
three of them-Toga Day, Doublemint J ff'
Day, and Huskie Appreciation Day. I L

Christmas Parade
This year, Emmett High School
sponsored a Christmas parade in
order to thank local merchants for
their support of the many clubs at
E.H.S. Parade entries included a
student council Hoat sporting the
Sweetheart's Ball candidates, the
band and drill team, a book worm,
and of course, Santa Claus. Many of
the clubs in the high school had
decorated cars in the parade, also.
lVlany townspeople turned out for the
parade and it was considered a great
success by everyone.

Senior Class History
Adventurous and daring, we entered E.H.S. as freshmen, ready to climb any mountain set before us, and climb
we did. We began by electing our class officers. They were Jeff Olson, president, Joel Strang, vice-president,
Nicki Heathman, secretary-treasurer, and Judy Hyde and Darla Vaughan representatives. Nlr. Delp and lVlr.
Rexford were assigned to be our advisors. lVluch work was put forth on our first Homecoming lioat, but we were
unable to place high.
Our sophomore year officers were Theresa Posey, president, Doug Walker, vice-president, Sylvia Carver,
secretary-treasurer, Dan Buzzard, sergeant-at-arms, and Dee Dee Nlecham, representative. We lost lVlr. Delp as
an advisor and gained lVlr. Meyers. Again our class float only received fourth place honors in the Homecoming
parade.
Time was passing quickly, and our climb was progressing with busy preparations for the annual prom. Class
ofiicers for our junior year were John Sowell, president, Kathy Hodgins, vice-president, Sylvia Carver, secretary-
treasurer, and Dee Dee Nlecham and Brian Briscoe, representatives. Following much competition between us
and the class of 1978, we finally showed them who was best by entering our fioat, 'lHuskies Are... Out of This
World", in the Homecoming parade and winning first-place honors. We also tied the senior girls, 6-6, in the
Powderpuff football game. To raise funds for the prom, we sold magazine subscriptions and also advertisements
for programs to be sold at the girls' basketball tournament. After extensive searching and pleading, the prom co-
chairman, Teresa Noble and Sylvia Carver, were unable to secure an out-of-town location for the event that the
school board would approve. Consequently, plans were made to hold it in the highschool gymnasium. Many
hours were spent decorating elaborately to the theme 'lCome Sail Away". The dance was deemed a success, with
150 couples attending. '
Finally, our senior year arrived, and we were determined to llrule the school". Class oflicers were Chris
Donaldson, president, Doug Walker, vice-president, Teresa Noble, secretary-treasurer, and Joe Jayo and Joel
Strang, representatives. Our class dominated Homecoming week. First, the seniors killed the junior girls in
powderpuff action. We managed to win all of the dress-up day contests and again captured first place honors
with our float. On top of winning our Homecoming game, the best victory of all was seen as our superior football
team beat Bishop Kelly for the first time in history. It was a great game, and words cannot express the triumph
we felt as an entire school. '
It is things like these that have brought our class together as one, bonding us with a touching closeness.
Although it will be sad to leave, it is only one step in our climb as individuals. We may fall short in our pursuit of
excellence, but it will not be because we did not try. Remember, we are still climbing a mountain, not resting on
one.

Remember those fctimes of our lives? when .
f
S
.Ll ,i i
we all finally got our government term
papers done!
lVlr. Pratt taped the lens of his glasses to
the end of a pencil, somewhat like a
makeshift lorgnette. '
we worked and worked and worked on
our college prep compositions, and Nlr.
Schiller STILL only gave urs a B.
Mr. V. Finally learned how to whistle a
new tune. W
the Huskies beat Bishop Kelly for s
the first time! '
Nlr, Eisenbarth cheered at the
football games and the
cheerleaders gave him an ofiicial
"skirt"! . y e
we ran out of coal and almost froze
to death in Jantiaryf '

Volleyball
The 1978 volleyball teams had
successful seasons but they were
quite different from one another. The
varsity team, coached by lVlrs. Black,
hnished the regular season with a 7
win 5 loss record and they Finished
third in the district tournament.
Coach Joe Good, in his hrst year of
coaching volleyball, did not have an
overall winning record but he was
happy with the progress the JV's
made this season. Hopefully, the
experiences the girls had this year
will help them later on in life.

The varsity baseball team was hoping
to have another successful season
when the year began, Due to an early i
deadline, the annual staff was unable
to report how the team was doing, if
but if the pitching held up, they
probably did quite well. Jeff Olson,
the team's only three year letterman,
hoped to keep up his good batting
average and hopefully lead the team.
Others expected to perform well were
Troy Haney, Chris Donaldson, Darren

Rodeo Club
A group which does not get very
much recognition at E.H.S. is the
Rodeo Club. The club competes in
rodeos throughout the year and most
of our cowboys and cowglrls do very
well. Marci Mathews, shown at right,
is an excellent pole bender and barrel
racer. Other Emmett High
competitors are Tammy Phillips and
Rod Cutbirth, who are both excellent
calf ropersg Tim and Tony
Rhynearson, who both compete in
the bareback bronc riding event, and
also Jim Brock, who is one of the few
crazy bull riders. A bucking barrel,
shown below, is a device used by
cowpeople to practice the riding
events when animals are not
available. Rodeo does not get much
recognition, but it is as tough or
tougher than any other sport in
America.

doing in past years. Hopefully, this will be the

Miscellaneous
Sports
There are quite a few students and
teachers at E.H.S. who participate in
sports that are not high school
sponsored. In the picture at the top
far left, Mark Olberding is shown
with his bike and several moto-cross
trophies he has won. David
Barnowski, Jeff Yunker, and Flint
Thornock also compete in this sport.
On the bottom far left is Eric

Big Horn Contest, shown receiving
the mounted horns.
From top to bottom in the center
photos are Alan Echeverria and Alex
Silva, jogging enthusiasts. Other
jogging teachers are Wayne Rexford,
Steve Beitia, Joanne Sporleder, and
Lynn Hyslop. Dennis lVlartin, trophy
winner in the annual high school drag
races at Firebird Raceway, is shown
in the top left picture, Kevin Silveria
is shown on the bottom left with his
winning form as he rolls another high
game. Other high school bowlers are
Tim Rynearson, Steve Harshiield,
Arlene Pitts, and Marci Nlathews.
These are but a few of the activities
that our students andteachers are
involved in. Randy Flowers, Larry
Ranstrom, and Jim Hebert are all
tough boxers who have each won
many bouts. Tony Bussert and Flint
Waller are both avid archers who
have killed several game animals with
their bows and arrows. Francis White
is both a hsherman and a hunter and
is known for his bird-feather tie.

Dedication
The 1978 Squaw Butte Saga is
dedicated this time to an individual
who for the past ten years has
literally put the yearbook together.
Almost every student has probably
had this man as their teacher. He
does not think that school should be
a place to play, but rather a place to
prepare for future life. The yearbook
is dedicated to a very deserving
teacher, Nlr. Glenn D. Schiller,
YII.
A new face at Emmett High this year
is Principal F. Lee Eisenbarth, left.
Other administrators working to
coordinate various programs and
activities within the district are, left
to right, Tony Villanueva, vice-
principalg James Kantola, district
superintendent of schoolsg and Roy
Rummler, assistant superintendent
of the Emmett schools.

We Salute All E.H.S. Staff Members
The members of the many staffs in
the high school all work very hard to
keep the school running as smoothly
as possible. Whether in the
lunchroom, the library, or the olice,
these dedicated people are a very
important part of life here at E.H.S.
The library aids, pictured at lower
left, are, Row 1, left to right, Lori
lVlarsh, Lori Leavitt, lVlarie Wonder.
Row 2, Suzanne Cox, Betty Hurd,
Debbie Ramirez, Donna Wallace. Row

Hembree, Trudy Hyde, Alice Bruner,
Judy Lair, Susy Sheldon. Not
pictured are Anna Watkins, Angie
Beckley, Lorie Sawyer. In view of our
failure to get a picture of the
janitorial staff in its entirety, we, the
members of the annual staff, award
ourselves a boobie prize. Four times
we tried to get the picture without
avail. We got all the janitors
together, but we had the camera set
incorrectly once and another time we
forgot to put film in the camera. At
any rate, we apologize and we can
only hope to do better next year.
