To determine which students qualify as Semi-finalists in the National Merit Scholar- ship program, the Selection Index for all eli- gible participants in a state is put in descend- ing order. The Merit Program commended students who scored at or above the national qualify- ing score set for the Commended Students but lower than the score required for Semi- finalists received a Letter of Commendation. Annually the Daughters of the American Revolution Award was presented to a Senior Girl who fulfilled the requirements. To be eligible, she must show evidence of an out- standing degree of leadership, dependability, and service. Traits to be considered in each of these categories included truthfulness, loy- alty, punctuality, courtesy, and cooperation. She must also reflect a deep sense of patriot- ism and devotion to family, church, school, community, and nation. 27

National Honor Society Sixty-five senior members of the National Honor Society provided many useful sendees whenever the need arose. They offered tutor- ing programs in any subject to those students who sought help. Society members served as hosts and hostesses at Parent-Teacher Confer- ence Nights to assist visitors and be of help to faculty. Club members also welcomed new students and aided them in becoming acq- uainted with the building and offered any- needed assistance. Their two major projects were the sponsoring of a Foster Child and contributing Scholarship Award to be pre- sented to the Valedictorian at Commence- ment. OFFICERS. Key Club Serving school and community, strength- ening relations with the Kiwanis Club, and providing vocational training, the Key Club stood by its motto, Caring — Our Way of Life.” Activities included delivering turkey bas- kets to the elderly at Thanksgiving, answer- ing Santa Claus letters from young children at Christmas, and sponsoring a School Lead- ers Banquet in the spring. In order to finance these and other service projects, the Key Club worked closely with its advisor, Mr. Wesser, to sponsor a highly profitable Donkey Basketball Game and assumed responsibility for the printing and sale of basketball programs for the season.
