We were taught by Mrs. Mannan, who was also our second grade teacher. With only a few difficulties we endured our first two years. We enjoyed various treats throughout the year, such as the Christmas gift exchange, a Valentine box, and puppet show. Our teachers for the 3rd, 4th, and 5th grades were respectively, Mrs. Genevie Reid, Mrs. Mable Arthur, and Mrs. ViEva Thrasher, In the sixth grade, we began to learn the meaning of real studying. This year 15 students from Lewisville and Wakeland joined our group, making our class very large. We had Mr. Kenneth Watson as our teacher. Our years in junior high school were full of work and fun. In the seventh grade our sponsor was Mrs. Eugenia White and in the eighth grade was Miss Grace Veatch. 4 rx I .-fm 3 t I' ? 3' Awe ? P N-. ,ff 'I DSW' 3 sy NE in' -m'.""' Our freshman year in school began with the election of the following officers: Jim Shuler, presidentg Sandra Whitaker, vice-president: Betty Fletcher, secretary, Mary Evans, treasurer, and Lena Owens and Vicki Gore, news reporters. We chose as our class flower a red carnation. We also chose our colors, blue and white, and our motto, "Push, pull, or get out of the way". We were initiated by the seniors, the initiation consisting of a long day of torture followed by a wonderful hayride and weiner roast that evening. Our halloween carnival queen and king candidates, Sandra Whitaker and Jim Shuler, were both elected. With the assistance of Mr. l-larold Edwardson, our class sponsor, we carried out two class projects-a bake sale and a fish fry, Our two class parties were skating parties and our class reunion, held in the summer, was at Riverside Park. The sophomore year was probably our quietest year, Our sponsor was Mr. Edwardson and our class officers were: Sandra Whitaker, president, Bill Brewer, vice-presidentp Vicki Gore, secretaryg Marvin Tudor, treasurer: and Sally Greenwood and Sybil Francisco, news reporters. We sold Christmas cards, had two fish fries and had one bake sale. We had two skating parties. Our candidates for king and queen at the halloween carnival were Wayne Brown and Barbara Ward, Our class reunion was held at McCormick's Creek Park. Our junior year found us very busy, Our sponsors were Miss Grace Cox and Mr. Harold Edwardson. ,Our offi- cers were: Jim Shuler, president, Jim Bailey, vice-presidentg Vicki Gore, secretary, and Mary Evans, treasurer. With Jim Shuler as our ,business manager we sold candy pop, and ice cream at school and ball games. O,ur first big event was the halloween carnival. Our candidates for king and queen were Maurice Collier and Judy Hadley, with Judy's being elected. Our parties were a supper at school and a weiner roast and hayride. We gave our play, "Bolts and Nuts" in March and in April we honored the seniors with a reception at Skyland Lodge. Our projects for the year were a fish fry, and a food stand at the Morgan County Fair. Our class reunion was held at Brown County State Park. Now that our senior year has arrived, we are preparing for graduation. Our sponsor is Miss Grace Cox and wc elected the' following officers: Jim Shuler, presidentg Jim Bailey, vice-president, Mary Evans, secretary, and Dorothy Parker, treasurer. Our first party was a weiner roast and hayride. Our candidates for halloween carnival king and queen were Jim Bailey and Mary Evans. Our projects for this year are the senior play and our annual. We had our pictures taken and ordered our commencement invitations and the name cards. Our trip to Washington D. C. and New York is to be April 15-21. Baccalaureate is scheduled for April 29, and Commencement for April 30. I r f Glaaa Wi!! P L ji! PRQPHE Y .ff W3 - r Reading in the Dreamtown News in 1966, we found some very interesting news. Jackie Cox, now the sole owner and editor of this paper, was once a student of Eminence High School. Upon seeing his name we began to wonder what had become of that graduating class of 1956. Glancing at the headlines part of our question was answered. DREAMTOWN COURT IN SESSION, FIRST IN TEN YEARS Deputy Jim Shuler, owner of Jim's Cafe, issued a warrant for the arrest of Bill Brewer for disturbance of peace. Bill was driving his '49 Chevy down Main Street in front of Jim's Cafe. James Bailey, the solemn judge, kept order while Bill's lawyer, William Bray, stormed that it was not Bill's fault his car was so noisy. Court was recessed till a later date. Looking farther down on the page we saw: DREAMTOWN HIGH SCHOOL FIRST IN CONTEST With Miss Judith Hadley as instructor, Dreamtown Latin Class won high honors in the State Latin Contest. One student commented, and 1 quote, "Miss Hadley is the best Latin teacher we ever had. " Then we saw another interesting item: LOCAL TEACHER CHOSEN TEACHER OF YEAR Dreamtown's elementary school was represented by Miss Mary Ruth Evans in the teacher of the year contest which was sponsored by radio station W. E. H. S. Miss Evans was chosen by popular vote to be the outstanding teacher of 1966. Dreamtown is very proud to have this honor. As a reward she received an all expense paid trip for two to any place she chooses. As a guest Miss Evans has decided to take Miss Barbara Ward. school counselor, with her to Paris. Turning the page we saw that Leo Pettit, the Greenback Collectors candidate for Mayor, spoke before the Dreamrown Ladies Club of which the former Miss Lena Owens is President. Refreshments were served by the former Miss Jacquelin Cox, wife of the famous multi-millionaire J. P. Snodgrass. On the social page we found that the Business Club of Dreamtown met for a luncheon at Jim's Cafe. The chairman of this meeting was Marvin Tudor, president of Tute--Tute Sc Tudor Law Firm. His private secretary, Miss Janice Voshell took the minutes of the meeting. Marvin Tudor had asked his good friend Miss Sandra Whitaker, District Attorney, to speak at his meeting. The entertainment was by Vickie Gore, the great jazz singer from New Orleans. We read about Chester Pearce, who was the ringmaster for Barnum 8a Bailey's Circus. It seems he was enroute to the winter circus quarters in Peru when his private plane crashed. Mr. Fred Collier, a farmer and owner of Collier's Lumber Company, found him on his farm. On the fashion page we learned that Miss Sally Greenwood, proprietor of Sally's Beauty Salon, protests against Italian hair cuts on women. Backing her up is Dreamtown's librarian, Miss Nancy Lewis. Skipping over to the television section we read about a new T. V. show, "Fashions by Sandy. " Starting on Wednesday night this new show will be starring Miss Dorothy Parker who models Miss Sandra Brown's fashions. The fashions are created by Miss Brown. The only other thing of interest to us was the sports page. On this page we found that Marlin Shupe is the sports editor. The most unusual thing to us was seeing Donna Hall as manager to an all boy's baseball team. There are no losses in the history of this team. This makes Donna very proud. Kenneth Ratts, two-time winner ofthe 500 mile race had a slight mishap on a dirt track. Emmett Fishel, his mechanic, explained that whencoming to a stop he tried to put the racer into reverse and stripped all the gears. The car went into a spin and turned over injuring Kenny. Mr. Fishel reports he is doing fine and will be racing again soon. iii Looking a little farther down the page we see about a wrestling match. MIGHTY MIDGET CLOBBERED JUMPIN' JEANIE, The "Mighty Midget", Juanita Hammonds, and "Jumpin' Jeanie, "Jeanette Miller, were very close friends in high school. Many of the members of this class will have been married by that time, but we are unable to foresee their married names. Sandra Taylor Helen Kay Alley Tm: Zi A ,gl . ff, iw' , -' , . I nm!
