STUDENT COUNCIL Last year, by constitutional revision, the name, Board ot Control was changed to Student Council. The new constitution is based on these principles: representation ot all tour high school classes, promotion ot all school activities, ac- ceptance ot the will ot the maiority, and pro- visions For the minority to be heard. Not only do these representatives work hard to protect Emerson's good name but they also participate in activities that help the less tortu- nate people in our community. .5 SENIOR HONOR SOCIETY The Emerson Chapter of the National Honor Society was founded in May, l93O. Following her came Nancy McDonough with basketball and still later was Judy Pfile with volleyball. ln the spring swimming and baseball were introduced to the freshies by Martha Katona and Helen Lehocky. After each sport a varsity was chosen and spreads were held. Outside of sport activities everyone will remember initiation, the winter couple dance the traditional and inspiring G.A.A. Banquet, and of course Miss "D". To Miss D we say thanks for the help and teaching that make G .A.A. members what they are. To G .A.A. , we thank you for another year of everlasting memories of laughter, tears, and honors, we have experi- enced. 49 TORNADO fx 4 :dal LINEMEN LEFT TO RIGHT Gene Shayotovlch George Kou11anos Steve Zaharras Don PuJo George Kehayla Tom Farms Ron Krok BACKFIELD LEFT TO RIGHT Robert Brannon Greg Karskx Jerry Salvetn John Nowak The Tornado s T959 football season opened against Gary Roosevelt and for the first tame In many years we dldn't lose We dldn't wm elther, though, for as the flnal whistle blew, the scoreboard showed a 6 6 tle The team looked promising and we all looked forward to the following games ln the next game both teams played hard but we came out on the short end, loslng to Hobart T3 7 Tolleston came next, and we won our flrst game T3 6 The night of September 26th was an Important one to all Emersonlans, for It was our 50th Homecommg Lew Wal lace was our opponent that mght, and Shayotovlch made the all Important extra pomt good, so we managed to wln 7 6 The Hammond Tech game which came next, will be long remembered because both tackles made touchdowns Koullanos and Farris recovered fumbles and went on to score We met our oldest rlval, Froebel, next 50 V A .A .
