Dedication
1971 was a year of new experiences for the students of Elysian Fields High
School. Booker T. Washington High School and Elysian Fields High School were
combined for the first time, and despite the predictions of some, the students
of both schools showed a remarkable spirit of co-operation, good will, and deter-
mination to make this new situation work ---- and they have, It was not court
orders or administrative directives that made this a good school year---it was
the work of the students themselves.
We therefore dedicate the 1971 edition of the IACKET to those who met the
challenges successfully and who overcame the difficulties inherent in combining
the two student bodies:

Foreword
1 971
1971! ! There have been many new dimensions explored this year, Our head-
lines have carried the news of the progress in the war, the very rapidly changing
fashion scene, riots, and the deaths of many beloved people. All are very impor-
tant events, but they show a "rougher" side of life. The following pages present
1971 as we, the students of Elysian Fields High School, have enjoyed it, There
have been hard times, but the student body as .a whole has withstood them, ln
future years, we can look back, and through this medium, re-live the momentous
events that brought such happiness to us,

I am honored to have this .lii privilege to submit this mesgaggifilh A
to your class for the 1971 Jacket. May I take this opportunity L
to congratulate the Annual staff, under the direction of Mrs.
Maxine Best, for a job well done. For it is through your tire-

each of us for a long, long time. Fond memories that we have
all experienced together this past school year cannot be re-lived,
but this annual can long be remembered--so treasure this book as
a milestone in your educational career. yrgyfh
The demandffor higher education beyond the high school level
is definitely beyond the talking stage, and the opportunities for
each of you are greater than ever before in our history. If you
have a desire and a wish to attend college, follow through
with
your desire to learn and your wish will materialize to a reality.
I need not remind you of the contribution and sacrifice..
that
your parents have made through your first twelve years of g r
public school education. VItjiSfa joint effort of parents,i hill I
administrators, and school board members that produces the'
education possible. We here at Elysian Fields have worked
