MRIORETTING
fCont1nued from page 8ll
end of school our number was reduced to seven
All summer we practrced marchrng and tw1rl
mg wrth Mr Von Brock s asslstance and gurd
ance We met every Wednesday nrght at the
sradrum around 7 00 or 7 30 P M and practrced
untrl the mosqurtoes practlcally chased us out
Two or three weeks before school started we
agam had try outs and f1ve were chosen Then
we got our batons and boots One evenrng Mr
Von Brock brought our umforms out to the
stadxum lt turned out
Davrss unxform rt was
One afternoon soon
Brock drove my family
at New London where
make a new sk1rt H
straps and a few extra
When school started
mg every chance they
that I drew Betty Rose
slxghtly small
afterwards Mr Von
and me over to Ward s
we secured materral to
also got some new hat
buttons
the band began march
got fBand days were
Tuesday Wednesday and Frrdayl Generally
on Frrday we would go out to the stadrun'
on cxty buses and stay the frfth and sxxth
pertod eatrng our lunches there
We went to two out of town games Shaw and
Sandusky although we wanted to go to more
Talklng about marchxng for games we really
have fun One feels krnd of nervous before
one starts out at the begrnnmg of the game At
e half the tenslon lS a lrtle less than when
one gets out on the freld one forgets everythrng
u the school one IS marchrng for It makes
one feel good when the crowd starts clappmg
and whlstlmg for the school freld song lts
The most unforgettable game 1n every band
member s mtnd IS that Lorarn game Its always
the last game of the season and somehow al
ways manages to be the coldest lll never
forget thts last Lorarn football game Mr Von
Brock told us rf the Loram band marched we
would and the Lorarn band marched The
whole trouble was that when we started get
tlng llned up 1t raxned harder than ever and
the ra1n was practrcally lrke sleet Our poor
hands were so red and cold we could barely
hang on to our batons so we dldnt have to
twrrl even though we d1d stand out on the fleld
and practlcally froze When we went off the
fleld at the end of the half Mr Von Brock
drsmrssed us but most of the band stayed to
see the rest of the game
Bestdes marchmg for games weve marched
rn the Mardr Gras and m a parade the Masons
put on lust before an mstallatxon of offxcers
They put on a banquet for any member of the
band who wxshed to come and qulte a few
attended After the dmner we met at the hall
and were arranged for the march
We were supposed to march for the Hallow
een Parade but rt ramed and Mr Von Brock
was afrard wed all catch pneumon1a so we
dldnt march although we dxd get our share
of the crder and doughnuts
Aprxl 16 was the Lake Erre League Band Fes
txval rn Cleveland Herghts Some of the band
left early rn the mornrng and the rest of us
left a short txme after twelve We all met some
new acqualntances and they really made us
feel at home
On May 7 we went to Oberlxn to play for
the natronally known Mock Republxcan Con
vent1on held on the campus every presrdentxal
year Three other bands were lnvrted to play
On May 30 we marched rn the Memonal Day
parade
Our unnforms are paxd for by the school and
are drycleaned every summer at the schools
