COMMENCEMENT SPEAKER SENIOR CLASS ADVISOR ROBERT KAZMAYER Miss JOSEPHINE WILCOX Thirty-Six CLASS POEM-1943 On the threshold of manhood we stand Undaunted. The world which we see Spread bloody and warftorn before us, All robbed of her glory is she. Forth we go now to face a great crisis, To live or to die for our land: To freeze in the cold Arctic winter Or to thirst on the hot desert sand. Fond dreams of our dear AlmafMater Forever in memory remain, In our hearts, each little rememhrance We shall cherish and ever sustain. We shall never forget what she gave us, The laughs and the songs that we sang, Warm friendships and gay conversations, That each day through her corridors rang. But lift we our hearts now in prayer, In true and devotional praise, And ask that our every tomorrow Be as bright as our high school days. - Walton Rosenau SENIOR CALENDAR Class Play ...............,.................,.........,......,.......,..........i.,........i.....e......,....,.........,..,.,........,,.............. The club has held a meeting every month with Mr. E. D. Adams, the adviser, and Don Pember, the president. Other officers are: Walter Miller, vicefpresidentg Ernst Jackson, secretaryftreasf urer, and Bob Nielson, chief projectionist. The members were subject to call from their study halls if need arose for them to operate a projector for a class. Since there was a great demand for these short educational films, all of the mem- bers have become skillful in operating the machines. The other members are: Bob Butz, Howard Saddler, Eugene Tonry, Ed Plas, Leonard Wygorski, and Don Wolfe. FRENCH CLUB "La France chez nous-Voila notre devise." As the French Club works and plays, the foregoing statement is their guiding light. Translated into English it means: "France in our land-that is our motto." The French Club, composed of all students who are taking or have taken French, is active in bringing enjoyment to their members while furthering their ap' preciation and knowledge of France. The biggest event on the French Club calendar was the Second Annual Mardi Gras, held this year on March 9. Mardi Gras, meaning "Fat Tuesday," is a big French celebration every year on the Tuesday preceding Lent. Games, dancing, and refreshments were all part of the French Club Mardi Gras celebration. Other parties included a Hallowe'en Party and Christmas Festival. For the Christ' mas Party, a few of the members made recordings of Christmas carols in French and these records added much to the Festival. Numerous theater parties were well attended, the members going in a body to various French movies. Officers of the Club this year have been: Clare Robinson, presidentg Phyllis Wagner, vice president, Irene Ujlaki, secretary, and Judy Flood, treasurer. Miss Mar' jory Hird is the French Club adviser. JUNIOR HI-Y Junior HifY is an organization sponsored by the Y. M. C. A. for freshman and sophomore boys. Meeting every Wednesday night through the school year, the boys were kept interested with programs featuring Mrs. E. J. Howenstine, Mr. C. I. Hummel, Lo' rain County Agriculture Extension Agent, Coach Roy B. Clymer, Sheriff Carlton Finegan, and various movies. The elub's social calendar was just as full. During the year some of the various functions were three house parties at the Y, a theater party, and a joint dinner with Junior Friendship. The officers of the club are: president, Tom O'Connorg vice president, Skip Fauverg secretary, Joe Hamulag treasurer, Jack Yoo, Chaplain, Ron Van Dyke. SENIOR HI-Y Senior HifY, an active organization for junior and senior boys, is sponsored by the Y. M. C. A. and has about 50 names on the membership roll. The year's activities consisted of either a program or a business meeting every wcek with several social activities in addition. Some of the program's featured talks by Mrs. E. J. Howenstine, Detective Sergeant Clare Parker, Sheriff Carlton Finegan, and Mr. Jay Weller. Two joint meetings with Senior Friendship with movies and talks by an Amerif Sixty canfborn japanese couple and a joint dinner with the same club were enjoyed by the boys. The club members participated in a pep rally, several house parties, a basketball game with the alumni of HifY, the annual Coronation Prom and a Jayteen Benefit dance. The officers of the Senior HifY are president, Jack Hultzg vice president, Clare Anderson, secretary, john Linvilleg treasurer, Chuck McDaniels, Chaplain, Rue Mcf PLAYERS' CLUB The outstanding social event of the Players' Club year was the annual theatre party at the Play House in Cleveland. At that time 21 of the members saw the play, "Morning Star." Regular program meetings featured discussing of the various phases of the stage, as make-up and costumes. The club also sponsored the allfschool play, "Cuckoos on the Hearth," February SPANISH CLUB The Spanish Club, "Los Mantillas y Serapes" meets the first and third Tuesday of each month.
