The record for the girls’ team was 2 wins and 8 losses, but those numbers can’t actually represent the hard work and effort that was put into every meet. Coach Yates listed Tammy Alumbaugh, Maria Bourff, Karen Helpling, Juli Kaiser, Trish Watson, and Karina Lerkenfeldt as the outstanding team members in their events. Girls involved in the Sectional were Juli Kaiser, Karen Helpling, 100-meter hurdles; Tammy Alumbaugh, Rosie Kelich, Jeri McQuitty, Lynn Pedro, 800-meter relay; Maria Bourff, Tammy Alumbaugh, discus; Rae Ann Huffman, Juli Kaiser, Pennie Whisler, Becky Cress, 1600-meter relay; and Lynn Pedro, long jump. Expectations are high for an even stronger team next season. GOOD LUCK, girls! Top: Tammy Alumbaugh shows good form in running relays. Above: Karina Lerkenfeldt seems to “float” as she leads the race.
