J: C t x Ln I M! 1 , Boys And Girls State Molds Future Leaders A combination of talent. drive. and good citizenship helped four students to be chosen for Hoosier Boy's and Girl's State this summer. At the end of Junior year. two boys and two girls are selected to represent Elston High School. This past year, Brian Attar, Mike Keating. Kristy Stark, and Allyson Forsythe traveled to Indiana State in Terre Haute to Iearn about politics and to experience it in action. Upon arrival. delegates were as- signed to the Federalist or Nationalist parties. Although they roomed accord- ing to cities and countries, their room- mates were members of opposing par- ties. Delegates were selected to of- fices on the city, county. and state levels. For a week Brian. Mike. Allyson, and Kristy worked in positions such as County Commissioner. Precinct Chair- man. City Sheriff. and as State Sena- tors. Although they fOund that politi- cians don't have it quite as easy as everyone thinks. they all enjoyed learning how politics really works and they enjoyed meeting and making new friends. I.
