You can touch a portrait. Yet the thoughts and memories it conveys are intangible. These memories can be bad as well as good. but still, when they are pondered upon. they can bring a feeling of fulfillment to YOU. School spirit is much the same. AlthOugh it is an abstract idea. it can be so much more. You can hide away your spirit and ruin the pow- er of rivaIry not only for yourself. but for others, or y0u can reach down and pull out the excitement that will let you give it everything you have and walk out feeling bet- ter than you ever knew you could. In it's most competitive state. Dev- il Spirit can stimulate you to a ponnt where you can almost reach I WSHII Life out and touch the tension filling the air. Two familiar people who are do- ing a great job of helping us share and show our spirit this year are Kevin Martin and Allyson Forsythe. President and Viee-President of our Student Council. If they see a. single person hiding away their emotions to be cool they'll try anything from entering that person in a pie-eating contest or asking someone ot the opposite sex to help them get dressed while blind- folded. By the end of one of these assignments, how could the person not be as enthused as the rest of us? Another favorite skit transpired when we managed to get the class sponsors down on the floor in a baby bottle-sucking contest. The gym went wild while taunts and catcalls were hurled at the teach- .ers busily consuming the orange KooI-Aid from their bottles. Do we even remember who won? Of course not- we were just sorry the hilarious sight was over. The upper classmen have been doing a good job of showing the newcomers how to act crazy. There are two clubs that are espe- cially great for those who want to get involved. Mr. Freitag heads the boys cheerblock. and encour- ages the boys to stir up as much devilish disorder as they can. Along with the cheerleaders. Miss Smidt organizes the girls cheer'-

block. more commonly known as RT. No matter what the score. you can be sure these members will be up and inspiring our team with the most enthusiastic cheers they can muster. This year a final runs in our climb to freedom of spirit was the devel- opment of a new school constitu- tion. which is set up much like that of our Federal Government. with student involvement centering around a Student Council tHouse of Representativesi. and Student Sen- ate tSenatei. This. along with the other changes which are being made to get more people involved. are help- ing to gild the golden frame of our school :pirit at Elston. facingl: Kevin Martin bares all.
