Strength, Money And Cheers A mounting sense of exciremenr wos evidenr os rhe Elsron srudenr body participated in rhe onnuol Closs Olympics. Srudenrs cheered their conresronrs on 05 rhe four classes compered ogoinsr each other in activities such as mixed rug-of- wors, balloon pop, boron reloy, single sock race and boskerboll reloy. When rhe final results were announced, seniors took first place wirh 31 poinrs. The Sophomores placed second wirh 29 points, 0 jubilant Junior class followed wirh 22 0nd Iosr, bur cerroinly nor Ieosr, come rhe Freshmen with 7 points. Along with Class Olympics, Vorsiry cheerleading rry-ours were held. Tryours rook place in rwo days On rhe firsr day rhe girls oudirioned in from of Miss Smidr. Their rryours consisted of various gymnastics, TLoonry, on original cheer, plus rwo mounts and o sideline cheer. On the final day the girls performed in from of rhe srudenr body for rhe final decision. Losr yeor marked 0 beginning of 0 new voting sysrem. In rhe posr cheerleaders had been chosen olmosr enrirely by srudenr vorer The new sysrem limirs rhe student body r0 0 30 percent vore, leaving 70 percent of rhe vore wirh vorsiry cooch, Miss Smidr, TB ream coochh Miss Leonard, and principal, Mr. Herbert. The seven girls rhor were chosen reflect that the new system is highly successful. Annually Elsron does irs porr for choriry, when srudenrs Squeeze rheir pockers for rhe few remaining pennies which evenruolly odd up. This Mrs. Thomas Mrs. Freirog Mrs. Fritz was proven by rhe rorol, $828309, which was raised and divided among 7 choririesi Four hundred and sixry dollars each wenr ro; LoPorre Counry March of Dimes, American Red Cross, Michigan Ciry Scholarship fund, American Cancer Society, LoPorre County Eosrer Seals, Heorr Associorion, 0nd rhe Elsron Murol Fun. Recognirion trophies were awarded to 13 homerooms who collected over 100 dollars for squeeze. The Sophomore closs occumulored the largest rorol conrriburion of $905.80 and received the Champion Class Award All homeroom conrriburions end all class projecr earnings were combined ro arrive or the class rorol. Mrs. Thomos' homeroom, rhe 10-F- 4'5, with o rorol of $450 received rhe Grand Champion Award.

A series of fun run rrock meets or Elsron were sponsored by rhe Dunes Running Ciub and First Bonk rhroughour rhe summer. Many of our boys from The cross counrry and track reoms porricipored and did very weHV Summer running keeps rhese boys m shope omd gers rhem ready for rhe upcoming seasons.
