SENIOR CLASS HISTORY MRS. SPRAGUE MR. MAXEY The Class of 1954 has a right to be proud of its accomplishments in the senior year. These achievements would not have been possible without the guidance of our two sponsors, Mrs. Marion Sprague and Mr. Sheldon Maxey. There were three who carried a large amount of the responsibility: Paul Pittsford, president, Blake Water- house, vice-president, and Jania Martin, secretary-treasurer. Under this leadership the Class started a precedent of having a Senior Banquet, which was held on May 14. Ranking equally in recognition is the Senior play, LADIES OF THE JURY, which was performed before a capacity crowd on March 19, and the publication of the 1954 ELSTONIAN. I Successfully ending our high school career was the meeting in the study hall as one large group the final semester. On the following pages you will find pictures of the members of the graduating class except for the few for whom we have no pictures. They are Gerald Ellis, Her- bert Gardner, William Geleske-, Garry Hadders, Charles Hanke, Bennie Mack, Jon Papineau, Conard Parker, Robert Parker, Betty Haggins, and Betty Westerfield. PAUL PITTSFORD JANIA MARTIN BLAKE WATERHOUSE President Secretary- treasurer Vice-president 23

SENIOR CLASS HISTORY Row 1: Mrs. Kelly and Mrs, Morgan. Row 2: Mr. Miller, Mr. Sparks, Mr. Kuszmaul, Mr. Sellers. Some of us rushed, some of us crept, some of us were happy, and some of us were fearful. We were now in senior high. The clamor resounded from wall to wall as We entered the study hall to elect our sponsors. Out of the melee emerged the defenders of the Sophomore Class, Mrs. Morgan and Mr. Miller. After this furor had subsided, we noisily chose the leaders of our class: Blake Waterhouse, president, Nancy Booth, vice-presidentg and Terry Edwards, secretary-treasurer. On one occasion in our sopho- more year, however, we were relatively quiet, that was the night we held our Kiddy Prom, the Sophomore Party. The theme of the party was GAITE PARISIENNE. Coca Cola, pop corn, ice cream bars, potato chips! These were the passwords of our junior year. After a year of sound and fury, We were rudely awakened by the hard yet enjoyable work in connection with the financing of our future activities. Not all of our frivolousness had escaped us, because we used some of it in making our Junior Play, GREEN VALLEY, a bang-up success. Hearing about all our foolishness in pre- vious times, you might think that our prom would be a minor chaosg however, things were just the opposite on the night of,May 29. Beauty and thoughtfulness prevailed the entire evening as we enjoyed the ELSTONIA SHOWBOAT. The leaders for this year of hard work and pleasure were Blake Waterhouse, Paul Pittsford, and Bill Wright. Again we chose Mrs. Morgan and Mr. Miller as our sponsors. 22

JUNIOR PROM Row 1: John Kowalski, Ned Westphal, Bill Papineau, Bill Thornburgh, Eddie Hall, Ed Oszust. Row 2: Darlene Mahlka, Sandy Ferguson, Barbara Simpson, Nancy Fisher, George Baranowski, Judy Morrison, Jania Martin, Ronald Searcy, Rosie Linde, Don Ungurait, JoAnn Meska, Paul Pittsford Esther Richter, Herb Sperling, Diana Miller, Tom Goch, Pat King, Audrey Hardt, Sally Holston Marva Jane Haas, Don Shedrow, Rosi Leeds, Marvin Kominiarek. The Elstonia Showboat docked May 29, 1953, at Barker Hall for the Junior Prom. After an appetizing banquet a delightful program was presented. The acts were replicas of the vaudeville shows on the old floating theatres. Surely this event will be firmly entrenched in our memories. 24
