SENIOR PR OPI-IEC Y
One day 1n 1960 I plcked up the july edition of Llfe Magazine and who do you thlnk was
the ed1tor'P Why Madge Shtrley of course It seems that Madge has had all the edltorxals
written about her classmates at Elmore Cnty Hlgh
On the cover IS a plcture of Norma Phillips a famous actress who has just starred 1n
O11 Town a production of her home town My but Norma does look beautiful
On the fxrst page 15 a story of a three thousand acre Texas ranch owned by Mackie
Edmtston Oh yes, I remember htm very well Here IS a plcture also I draw the conclusion
that Mackte did not like Oklahoma too well but he did like some of the things that were tn
Oklahoma from what I can see in thms ptcture There stands Robert Russell as chlef foreman
for Mackie I could have guessed that I can hardly tell who this woman IS she IS qulte fat and
looks to be about twenty eight years old Oh yes, I recognize her now It is Eva Smith who is
chief cook for the ranch Eva I almost failed to recognize you wtth that extra one hundred
pounds
Here IS an account of the greatest o1l well in the world It was brought ln by the famous
geologist Roy joe Grimes Where could tt be located but rtght in the heart of Elmore City
It also mentions h1s secretary Lahunta Mclntyre who is a great help to hmm and his work
On page four is an edxtorxal about an expedition to the moon in a new type plane Wmdol
Nation IS the pilot of th1s expedltion and Loretta Eppler ts a1rl1ne hostess for the crew They
have a regular schedule from New York to Los Angeles I could have expected that from
Here ts an advert1sement Let me read it to you Quote Buy the new type car called
Dynamite The sun on the market Manufactured by the famous automoblle manufacturer
Edward Dougherty Unquote
On page six you will find a ptcture taken at the Wh1te House and a very mterestmg ed1tor1al
on the struggle of the Negroes entermg the schools of Oklahoma One of the senators from
Oklahoma Floyd Bush is takmg a popular stand And does he look dlgmfxed 1n that picture
Next we find the announcement of the marr1age of Mtss Joyce Neal to her ex boss Oh So
that s the reason she was so Interested in becoming a secretary
Here is an edttorlal on radio programs, including a symphony orchestra whose master of
ceremomes IS Deryll Graves and jack Cantwell IS the stngmg star I knew there must be some
klnd of talent nn our class Here It is already perfected
On page ten is an account wrltten about the United States 4 H Club Supervxsors v1s1t to the
Club at Elmore Cxty Who do you think he turns out to be? Yes you guessed tt It IS Bob
McCask1ll
Here is a picture of a distinguished lady Why that IS Nadme Conrad she IS Dean of the
Women s College at Chlckasha From this edztorlal I conclude that she ts well loved by all the
students I knew that Nadme would be successful in life
Next we fund an account wrltten about june Douth1t She IS an old mald school teacher at
Elmore She teaches the second and thlrd grades We all thought june would make a good
teacher
And here I find a long artlcle on the career of that talkative lad tn our class A j Conn

Remember he couldn t decide between the profession of a lawyer and an architect Well he is
now one of the best known lawyers ever to graduate from North Texas State College Denton
Texas
Who do you think this picture of a U S General occupying japan could be 9 Why it is joe
Lee joe doesn t look as though he has changed much in the last ten years
Near the back of the magazine are several editorlals about successful housewives Let me
quote them to you Quote Mildred Moore settled down as a successful housewife for a brown
eyed soldier
The former Lorece Pickens is now a housewife specializxng in raising Roses
Of all things I never imagined this just listen Loretha Riggles is now Mrs Admiral
Davis Paul Dill jr and IS doing her best to build up the Navy
Last, but not least is an editorial about a photographer who happens to be Clyde Knight
The pictures of his classmates in this magazine were taken by him He also helped write the
editorials Although Clyde is making his home in New York he recently came to Elmore to
take the Seniors pictures In his leisure time he writes books about his school days at Elmore
City
Well, such is the future of the 1948 49 Seniors of Elmore City I can still say that that
was the most mteresting magazine I have ever read Of course, it would be to me because
I was so fond of my classmates You should read it ometime because I have just hit the
high spots here I believe that you will find it interesting also
