The club sponsors a talent show and a dance to raise funds for service projects throughout the year. This year, the club sponsored a special sock-hop at Christmas time for raising funds to furnish toys for the Christmas Bureau. The Safety Council, se- lected from the club, attends monthly meetings and promotes safety in the school, home, and car. Posters drawing the students ' attention to safety were put in the halls. It is the most important task in the world. The F.T.A. was born in 1937 when the National Education Association Representative Assembly approved the formation of " Future Teachers of America " groups. Since then, F.T.A. has grown from one high school club of 72 members to 4,043 high school clubs with 117,691 members and 697 college Student N.E.A. chapters with 43,204 members. The Fort Wayne Beauty College gave the girls tips on the new hair styles and the correct way to use make-up. The girls invited their mothers to the annual banquet in May. One speaker was Mrs. Ivan Gold- en who spoke about parliamentary procedure at the club ' s luncheon, September 20. Another speak- er was Dr. William R. Eberly from the Department of Biology of North Manchester College. His interesting talk included a discussion of lakes and how they provide food, protection, and homes. At the end of several meetings, films were shown. A few were: Where Land and Water Meet, On the Rocks, Life on the Coral Reef, Cave Dwellers, The Life Cycle, and a two hour film on Marvels of Under Sea Life. To end their acitvities, the Nature Club had a banquet in May and presented awards to their members. There were twelve teams with four members on a team. Each week theater tickets were given to the highest boy and girl scorer in the league. During the winter months, the girls played such sports as volleyball and basketball; in the warmer months, the girls participated in such outside sports as golf and archery. The track team competed in eight different meets and sent qualifying members to the sectional and regional track meets. The team won against Concordia and placed second in a triangular meet with North Side and Bishop Luers. A respectable showing was made by our team in the New Haven Relays and N.E.I.A.C. meet. The team had meets with Howe, Culver, and Con- cordia rifle teams. The high scorers for this year were V. Sipe, G. Owens, M. Hawkins, A. Starewich and M. Black. There are six team members working on their Distinguished Award which is the highest award the National Rifle Association gives. These people are: M. Hawkins, G. Owens, N. Schroff, V. Sipe, A. Starewich, and P. Bell. The Booster Club which is composed of 165 girls cheered at all the home games plus the games played at North Side and South Side. All of the girls are required to wear white blouses. The main money making project is selling ice cream and popcorn at the home games. The Booster Club stimu- lated good sportsmanship and team support. The reserves can be j roud of a fine 8 win and 1 loss record. The varsity Trojan Harriers placed first in the Northwestern Indiana Conference meet, third in the Allen County Sectionals, and 16th in the state meet. The Trojans lost only to North Side, South Side twice, and to New Haven.
