The sophomores elected Bob Rice, presidentg Dick Beard, vice-president: Ioan Carriger, sec- retary: and Sylvia Gilliff, treasurer: and as usual, Miss Auman was sponsor. Do you know that sophomore means wise fool? Well, it does. Those history tests were awful. No sophomore could remember when the Petition of Rights was signed. We sat and groaned glancing about at our equally unfortunate neigh- bors. The grades on one test were so low we had to have a retake. Believe it or not, the grades were pretty good. Mind now, pretty good. Geometry! Oh! That geornetrymformal proofs, construction, theorems, postulates and def- initions! Gee, what a mess! l mean, the papers of the wise fools . Readinf oops, literature wasn't so bad except for book reviews and oral reports. Now those really got us down. Your knees shock, and you got either red or white when you stood before the class. Latin was a pushover. But who can figure out who did the pushing? Was it the Latini discipuli or the Latina lingua? Carl Stoops, one of the popular sophomore boys, was accidentally killed during Thanks- giving vacation. For our social activity, we voted to have a skating party at Bells. lanuary 31 was the only evening open. Sofon the decided date we did skate. Oh, there's a rhyme. No sophomores had any trouble about missing the bus and such, as We did last year. But did we ever have fun teasing the freshmen! Now we know why we were teased so much last year. Nearly every sophomore had a Defense Stamp Book and thrust it under someones nose and exclaimed, Look what I got. Then the other person thrust his stamp book under the first person's nose: and they walked off together, for they had a common share in America. lt was a great life. We, the class of '44 wound up the year by singing School days, school days, dear old golden rule days, Latin, hist'ry, geometry, too . . .
