The Elmhurst Advance entered its ninth year of publication under the direction of Miss Pauline Holl. After the mid-year examinations, Miss Dorothy McComb took over. The Advance inaugurated a program of gradual change for the paper with the slavedrivers. Calvin Deam and Barbara Alden, in charge. Jeannie Summers collected articles. Joyce Sonner eliminated from the copy the mistakes of the much-picked-upon reporters. The Advance has become an institution at Elm- hurst: but as every institution has a financial prob- lem, the Advance has, too. This problem, however. did not worry many, for the Advance had an able business staff under the guidance of Mr. Howard XVisner with Louis Lepper and David Coil as road bosses. The Advance, having received International First Place, is now bidding for highest place in the annual Quill and Scroll judging of high school papers. The 1940 Anlibrum was edited and re-edited and compiled and de-compiled, fsee Miss Fallsj by an all-school staff of students with journalistic leanings. This plan for gathering statistics is new to Elmhurst and has made for increased accuracy and speed in editing. The Anlibrum gratefully owes its being to the senior salesmen and to the business staff led by Louis Lepper and W'endell Fusselman. Others of Herky's helpers were: M. Grepke, ass't news editor: L.
