E Club and Lettermen Sponsor Dance HE. li, li, and E. the staff heard Herky shout. XY'as he taking an eye examination? No, only counting the many members of the E Club as they passed by in their scarlet letter sweaters. On February 9, Herky attended the first meet- ing of the E and Lettermen Clubs. Nlfhile he was admiring the athletes, debaters, marksmen, and musicians, the group elected Melvin Sheets. presi- dentg Charles Coleman, vice-president, and Adine Gebhart, seeretary-treasurer. Plans were made for the annual dance and committees were appointed. Herky and his girl friend enjoyed talking to the 1940 ll's and also to the alumni li's at the reunion dance giyen on April 6. The sport decora- tions and blaze of red sweaters made this a color- ful affair. Former athletes. especially, held many remember when conversations. Finally Herky's curiosity overcame him so he rounded up the sponsors, Miss Adamson, Miss McComb, Mr. Eickhoff, Mr. liryback, and Mr. Qnider and found out how the Trojans and Troianettes had merited that coveted e .1 ,'- 1 - 4 -- - ,. There. amid the busy Click of tvpewriters. lie found several willing tvpists and other commercial-minded students. As proof of their efficiency, he saw many names listed under bronze medals for typing forty words per minute. silver for fifty words and gold for sixty words. These typists cheerfully relieved Herky of his notebooks and set to work. Seeing Herkv beam at his assistants, XV. Fusselman. president. introduced him to the other oflicers: D. l.ehman. viee-president: A. Gebhart. treasurer: li. Swank. secretary: and Miss Auman. sponsor. Do you always work so hard? asked l-lerkv. Oh, no! XY'e have plenty of fun. chorused the advanced shorthand class. After Nliss .Numan had srilled the girlish lltll- burst, Herkv learned that the Commercial Club had roasted wieners and hunted for treasure on October 6. They made a truce with work by skating Novem- ber Il. Un December ZX, they held .1 Christmas exchange at Ruth Lunfs home. lfebruarv was memorable for a tour of the News-Sentinel and another skating spill and pick-up. By this time Herky had made himself so charming that the banquet committee invited him to their annual dinner. lf. Sehoeneman, I.. nl. Foltz. P. NleCov and P.
