JUNIOR PROM IS HIGHLIGHT IN ELMHURST SOCIAL SEASON ELL. since all the folks are away and there is nothing else to do, why not drag out the old album and see what inte1'esting things there are to see. Oh yes. this one contains the progress of the class of '35 at l'llmhurst. I'ye heard that's a very successful and peppy class. Now let's see. Right here is the group of greenies who first entered high school. But at that they weren't any greener than the rest. because that was a new school and eve1'yone was as unfamiliar with it as they were. Now these folks must be the otlicers of the class. YVho are they! Yvell. there's Mike Trott as p1'esident. He's that little fellow with the big laugh. Dot Monce is his assistant. and Bernice Graft as secretary-treasurer. Berneice. by the way. was the first one to enroll in Elnihurst High. Quite an honor I should say. Congratulations! Blr. Jeffrey is their advisor. He was very well liked. Hereis a large picture. Oh. this is their tirst party of the year. And now, why are all those youngsters looking so down in the mouth, and look at the furrows on their brows. You don't suppose it could be exams! iVell. that's it. and they're certainly making the worst of things. Now this picture looks brighter. I suppose it's 'cause exams are over. I donzt blame 'E'lll! And this picture looks like another party. Yes, it is. Now look at those grins! You just know by looking at them. that they have washed their hands off the freshmen title and are now sophisticated tp fy sophomores. Yep, here they are with the sophomore title and do they look big! Let's see, who have they selected this time for their leaders! Paul Kennner, a basketball hero. is president. land he was so hash- fulj. Blike Trott is vice-president, Howard. Shadow Gould is secretary, and Berneice Graft is treasurer. She must be good at it. And demure Miss Rinehart tnow Mrs. Erbaugh to you. pleasei is selected as their source of better judgement. Oh boy, what's this I see! Nothing else hut a Hard Times Party. the Sophomores' first activity of the year. My dear. look at that dress Delitta Beck has on! I'll bet her mother found her quilt all cut up next 1no1'11ing. At least that's what the dress looked likc. And. Bliss Falls, your dust cap and apron are charming! Hilda Ditzenberger, where did you ever dig up those old relics of shoes. Yes sir, high tops and pointed toes. in fact, so pointed you might have

hurt someone had you ever struck them with your feet. I know by looking at this group. they had a marvelous time. Now, now, I see those agonized faces again. lNIust be exam time. VVell. well. another party. This time the sophomores do look their part--sophisticated. They're all dressed up and sitting at card tables playing bunco. But look at those grins! They are certainly having fun. I see some kids dancing in the background. There's Mr. and Mrs. Smutts. Mike. Bob McCoy, and a few others are very generous, I heard. giving all their points to someone else and staying at one table practically all evening. Some of the outstanding people in the class during the year: Bill Hargrave is one of the cheer leaders of the school. In the oper- etta. Miss Cherry Blossom . Dorothea Monce, a popular. blue-eyed blonde of the class had a character part. David lVelch, the red-head- ed boy of the class. and somtimes an awful, awful, pest. also had a character part. Others in the class were in the chorus. Sophomores on the girl's varsity basketball are: Jeanette Van Buskirk. Hilda Ditzenberger, Georgia Prince and Thelma Simmons. Sophomores on the boys va1'sity basketball a1'e: lllike Trott. Byrd Grear. Paul Kemmer, Bob McCoy, Elton Springer, and Harry Spice. And now the whole group. smiling as usual, look forward to their next year in high. They are the Juniors. Although some hate to leave the sophisticated class. most of them would rather join the jolly. undiginiiied, class of Juniors. without doubt. the most exciting year in high school. And now, after a summer's vacation, they are back again and are ready to begin this exciting year. This year they have efficient Bob Carriger for chief. Betty Brinton his assistant. Doretha Monce as secretary and Marjorie Nell Harper as treasurer. Miss Cress is their choice for class sponsor. Gee. that fire looks swell and those kids roasting weiners and marshmallows! VVhat is it? VVhy. it's the Junior VVeiner Bake. and they had a treasure hunt before eating. I guess it was really ditlicult. They had two trials and here are the leaders, Mike Trott. and Bill Hargrave, both little fellows but in spite of that, they look real capable. By the satisfied looks on Vera's, Lou's and Josephine 'l'hurber's faces. I have decided that they found the t1'easure. But whoever found it certainly deserved it after their long tramp. I see Miss Cress and Mr. Eickhoff, and do tell, theyfre holding hands. VVell here's the candy counter and here we see Bernice Graft, Betty Brinton, Dorothea Monce and Marjorie Nell Harper. Berneice is the manager.
