OPERATIONS DEP RT IVIENT Operations Department is responsible for Electronic War- fare, Extemal Communications, Navigation, Electronic Repair, and Information Gathering and dissemination. The Signalmen of NX Divi- sion keep a sharp watch 24 hours a day topside, and the Ra- dio men keep a sharp ear open doum below. The uSigs are of vital importance when it is nec- essary to use flashing light, flags, or hand signals for com- munications. The Radiomen send and receive messages vital to the tasking and operation of the ship and also receive and post world news and sports, when overseas, to keep the crew informed on current events. Nw, y K, S 2 mu LT. ARIEL OPERATIONS OFFICER Combat lnfonnation Center QCICJ, also known as the nerve center of the ship, is home to OI Division. The men of Ol are task- ed with being the eyes and ears of the ship from the inside-out. They are responsible for keeping track of all air, surface and sub- surface contacts from in-close to miles beyond the horizon. OE Division's ETs are re- sponsible for the maintenance and proper operation of the ships radars, communications and navigational equipment.
