Zito entered the Navy on 15 December 1961 at Santa Monica, Ca. and complet- ed recruit training in San Diego, Ca. He was initially assigned to Naval Auxiliary Air Station, New Iberia, La. From there, his tours have included: Airborne Early Wam- ing Squadron Eleven, Argentenia, Newfoundland, Air Antisub- marine Squadron Twenty-seven at NAS Norfolk, Va., Flag Ad- ministrative Unit for Commander Naval Air Force U.S. Pacific Fleet at North Island San Diego, Ca., Guided Missile Unit For- ty-one at NAS Point Mugu, Ca., USS PUGET SOUND QAD-585. Master Chief Zito then spent four years at three Navy Re- cruiting Districts: Richmond, Va., San Franciso, Ca., and New Orleans, La. Upon completion of his recruiting assignments he trans- ferred to Navy Support Facility at Diego Garcia. From there he transferred to the USS ELMER MONTGOMERY for his lirst tour on board. He left the MONTGOMERY for almost six years for duty at the Naval Education and Training Program Devel- opment Center, Saufley Field, Pensacola, Fl. Prior to his trans- fer back to the ELMER MONTGOMERY he was screened and selected for the Command Master Chief program by COM- NAVMILPERCOM. Master Chief Zito has been awarded the Navy Commen- dation Medal, Navy Achievement Medal, Combat Action Rib- bon, Navy Unit Commendation, Meritorious Unit Commenda- tion, Navy E Ribbon, seven Good Conduct Medals, two Navy Expeditionary Medals, National Defense Service Medal, two Armed Forces Expeditionary Medals, Coast Guard Special Operations Service Ribbon, four Sea Service Deployment Ribbons and the Overseas Service Ribbon. Master Chief Zito is married to the former Alberta Beltz of J acksonville, Fl. They and their son Chris reside in Jackson- Vl 6, . Orchard graduated from the U.S. Naval Academy in 1975 and reported to the USS JOUETT CCG-297, where he served as B Division Officer, First Lieutenant, and CIC Officer. Subsequent to his division officer tour, Commander Orchard was assigned to Naval Recruiting District, Portland, Oregon, where he served as Officer-in-Charge of a Class A Recruiting Station. I'le gradu- ated from the Surface Warfare Officer Department Head course in Apnl 1980. From there he was assigned as Engineer Officer on the USS DECATUR CDDG-515 and later, as Engineer Officer on the USS ALAMO QLSD-551. Following a tour at the Naval Postgraduate School, he served as Executive Officer on the USS JOSEPH STRAUSS QDDG- 163 Commander Orchard reported to USS ELMER MONTGOMERY from duty on the staff of the Chief of Naval Operations Washington D C QOPNAV 9425 where he served as Requirements Officer for Ad vanced Tactical Data Links In addition to a Bachelor of Science degree in Operations Analy sis from the Naval Academy Commander Orchard holds a Master of Sclence degree ln Computer Science from the Naval Postgraduate School Commander Orchard IS marned to the former Karla Enckson of Pocatello Idaho They have one son Nathan and two daughters Molly and Gwen - . 0 .
