Fgxrr-5-,,.i,1:?y,-,W SV 4: -fn .ngw-Y v A++-'--1 USS ELMER MONTGOMERY CFF-10825 Built by Avondale Shipyard, Incorported, Westwego, Louisiana, ELMER MONTGOMERY was launched on November 21, 1970 and was commissioned at the Boston Naval Shipyard on November 21, 1971. She is one of the Knox Class Frigates specifically designed for anti-submarine warfare. The ship is named in honor of Sergeant Elmer Montgomery, United States Marine Corps. After commissioning, the USS ELMER MONTGOMERY was homeported in Norfolk, Virginia, She has had several extended deployments with sixth fleet in the Mediterranean and with Middle- east force. On June 22, 1977, The ELMER MONTGOMERY commenced her first regular overhaul. Upon completion of overhaul on April 10, 1978, USS ELMER MONTGOMERY changed homeport to her new operating base at Mayport, Florida. She completed refresher training at G Cuba, In August of 1978, and immediately deployed to the North Atlantic. From April - 1979, the MONTGOMERY deployed to the Middle-East atwhich time she took on for COMIDEASTFOR. ELMER MONTGOMERY once again deployed to the July - December 1980, to the Middle-East of the fall of 1981, and to the North Atlanti -' October 1982. In February of 1983, she entered her second regular overhaul at Bath, Maine.
