GPERATIO DEPARTME T Operations Department is re- sponsible for Electronic Warfare, External Communications, Navi- gation, Electronic Repair, and In- formation Gathering and Dissem- ination. ' The Signalmen of OC Divi- sion keep a sharp watch 24 hours a day topside, and the Radiomen keep a sharp ear open down be- low. The Sigs are of vital impor- tance when it is necessary to use flashing light, flags, or hand sig- nals for communications. The Ra- diomen send and receive .mes- sages vital to the tasking and Op- eration of the ship and also re- ceive and post world news and sports, when overseas, to keep the crew informed on current events. Combat Information Center CCICJ, also known as the nerve LT Martin Operations Officer center of the ship, is home to Division. The men of OI are task. ed with being the eyes and ears of the ship from the inside-out. They are responsible for keeping trggk of all air, surface and sub-surface contacts from in-close to miles-be- yond the horizon. i OE Division's ETS aref re- sponsible for the maintenance and proper operation of the ship'S radars and communications equipment. The EWS operate and maintain all -electronic -warfare equipment which enables ,early detection of any hostile platform which may 'be a potential threat to the ship. I .
