One special way that Montgomery Sailors took advantage of our inport time in Italy was to visit The Vatican. We saw the splendor of Saint Peters Basilica including works of art by Michaelangelo and other renown artists. We had the privilege of an audience with His Holiness, Pope John Paul II and on Christmas Eve, many of us attended Midnight Mass said by the Pope. The Vatican was a place of beauty, love, and peace.
