Learning is a tedious sk calling for much work on the part of both the teacher and the student. YVe here- with recognize this fact an lan to under- score it in our 1959 " o uallumf' Our theme is labor and management. The long-suffering laborer, the student, and the hard working executive, the teacher, are pic- tured within portraying their many moods. In their freshman year they elected Joe Tornquist president, Jim Wrougton vice- president, Linda Gano secretary, Maura McCool student council representative, and advisers, Miss Gustafson and Mr. Baldwin. They sponsored two sock hops and a Christmas skit. When they returned as sophomores, they were eager to initiate the underclassmen. They started out the year by electing Joe Tornquist as president, Jim Wrougton as vice-president, Charlotte Prosise as secretary, Bonnie Myers as treasurer, Maura Mc- Cool as student council representative, and Ron Ramey as class representative. Their advisers were Miss Conner and Mr. Nelson. As the class of '59 entered their junior year they selected as their leaders president, Steve Russell, vice-president, Jim Wrougtong recording secretary, Charlotte Prosise, treasurer, Karen Browng student council representative, Dan Glenn, class council, Bill Michalak, and advisers, Miss Murrell, and Mr. Nelson. As Juniors they put on a sock hop and their biggest event of the year, the junior Prom, "Ebb Tide." They selected their class sweaters and colors as grey and blue, and they also selected their rings. The Juniors had the winning Christmas skit and they presented the class play 'KDirty VVork at the Crossroads." Finally, having worked their way to the top, they entered as masters. They elected to lead their class president, Mark Georgeg vice-president, Don Bryan: recording sec- retary, Toni Anenseng corresponding secretary, Marjorie Crane, treasurer, Dorothy August, student council representative, Bill Michalakg class council, Robin Brock- mueller. They produced the well-known Broadway play "Arsenic and Old Lacef, The main event of the year was the Senior Ball which they are proud to say was a great success. THE STORY Arsenic and Old Lace was a modern day murder story, told in a very humorous vein. The sisters, Abbey and Martha, are very nice old ladies. Their only fault is that they feel sorry for lonely old men and put them to sleep, permanently. Teddy imagines himself to be Teddy Roosevelt, Mortimer falls for Elaine, and the fiendish nephew, jonathan, returns to his dear aunts' house. Dr. Einstein plans to alter John's appearance, but the police catch up with the crooks too soon. The friendly policemen and Rev. Harper add to the comedy, as the sisters lay more to rest in the basement. The unexpected conclu- sion sees good Nfr. Witherspoon come to take the old women to a home for the aged. The Senior play Dramatics Award was won bv Alfred McMillan.
