As we look at the beauty of the town below 'he eye observes each well kept row o the south is H-row, to the west is J-row o the north is A-row, to the east is K-row. he attraction of the beauty in the town ies in the unique lay of the ground dam to the left, a dump to the right Those fires keep burning day and night. n summer the grass is always green Jhile each yard is kept tidy and clean he beauty of the lay does not retreat rom the radiant flow of the sun's heat. utumn is the busy season of the year Jhen the nights are still and clear hen we gather all the fruits and grain o save them from the snows and rain. They were the Freshmen of yesterday but are the Juniors of today. The members of the class put aside their childish pranks and began to take interest in their class and the school. No officers were elected the freshmen year, but the class became acquainted with the faculty and classmates. During the sophomore year the following officers were elected: President - Thomas Lloyd Vice President - Peter Patasky Sec. and Treas. - Helen Rodgers The class colors chosen were orchid and gold. The class motto decided upon was "Deeds not Words". A Halloween Dance, which proved to be a success was the o class first social activity. xi, At the beginning of the year 1937, the sophomore class advanced to the rank of Juniors. The class colors and b u motto of the preceding year were retained. lgf The Junior-Senior Prom which is annually given as a farewell dance for the seniors was held April 29, 1938 at X", the Bentleyville gymnasium. The music was furnished by . Stan Vinton and his orchestra, Nl After graduation a trip to some point of interest is a Nm, tradition of the school. The present Junior class plans , to visit the New York VJorld's Fair in 1939 instead of the 0 I-S W YI I N Y V customary tour of Washington'D. She spurns the love of Horace Harter Qwilliam Crewj for the exciting romance given her by Billy Barberton CChuok Hahnj and Billy Barrington CHazen Lloydl. Lucindy Lovejoy QMarie Lesej is the Hired maid and Essie Ebber- sole, a nebby little tattle-tale, is played by Chris- tine Ross. Anne Ainsby CMargaret Baboj and her chum Lillian Lorraine Cmarcella Charlesj furnish the love interest. Horace Harkwell CJohn Rossj, a lonely widower, is the object of Aunt Abby's affections. Mrs. Purviance CAnne Kupirj gives Aunt Abby the facts on WHow to get a Mail-Order Husband.' The work of selecting and directing the play was ably handled by Miss Dorothy Law and Mr. Ray Wardrop. At the beginning of the season Ellsworth faced Charleroi as a curtain-raiser, with only eight days of practice available. Coach Holland built the entire eleven around John Ross and James Gauriloff, his two lettermcn. The local eleven was white-washed by a score of 5h-O. The outlook for the season looked dim but in the next encounter, they surpriseingly held the strong California team to a lone touchdown which was made in the last minute of play. The Cokers dropped their third contest to Jefferson High School by a 26-lh score. The E. C. gridders snared their initial win at home, by downing the East Bethlehem team by a score of 19"7o In the battle of the year, midst a steady downpour of rain, the local footballers beat the Bentleyvillo Bears by a score of 6-O. Leading the Belle Vernon eleven by 19 points with five minutes remaining to play, the local team was defeated by the score of 20-19. East Pike Run High and Ellsworth teams played a scoreless deadlock and in the final game of the season, the home boys dropped a one-sided battle to the Center- ville eleven by the score of 26-O. Coach Don Holland's material for the past few years has been poor, but the outlook for the 1938 foot- ball season looks the brightest since he came. Said Aristotle so many years ago, 'The principle aim of gymnastics is the education of all youth and not simply that minority of people highly favored by Natures' Intramurals came into prominence after 1925 with our high school making a fair bid this year, We have included in our program basketball, foulfshootingg volleyball and soft ball. Intramurals are governed by a council consisting of a intramural manager and two members from each class under thc supervision of Mr. Adamson and Mr, Holland. The plan for competition is as follows: 10th, llth, and 12th grades compose the senior groupgh?th, 8th, and 9th the Junior group. Thus far along, the 12th grade holds the edge in total points scored with 9A section repeating in the Junior group. The foul shooting contest was a walk-away for XO 6666666666" the Di Nardcs, Arco scored 39 out of 50 foul shots, with Gilbert running a close second. Sixty girls participated in the Service, each wearing a white robe. During the processional, the girls carried lighted candles and sang Adeste Fidelis. All observers proclaimed it a beautiful and inspiring service. One main event of the evening was an instrumental quartet given by four members of the orchestra. The Girls gave the Cantate 'Night of Holy Memories,' arranged by Ira B. Wilson. The Service was conducted by Miss Eloise Bates who was assisted by Miss Ruth Freeman. The soloists were Hope Miller, Helen Rodgers, Letty McNulty, Elanor Homme and Ruth Thomas. The enterprise yearly has been successful. Orchestra Under the capable direction of Miss Ruth Freeman, the musicians, twenty-seven in number, received a fine musical education. ,,L The orchestra consists of violins, trombones, saxaphones, trumpets, mandolins, guitars, drums and a piano. The brass section participated in the Christmas CandleLight Service. Using this group as a nucleus the school plans to build it up into a large organization, from which a band might also be selected. -ae---v ---mm---am---sm-.-svg--ev---4a---mm---sm---am---sm O R A N G E S THE HOME OF DISTINCTION Gifts Greeting Cards Candy Library Ice Cream Fallowfield Ave. Charleroi, Pa. 111 QQQ ffffffflf 'QQQQQQQQ X I W W VI W X7 NTI A , 'Mk .AI If 1 gi fx IHS if x ' Fir: f- -- 11' " bi 'W i .
