' For the second straight year Ellendale High School's basketball team was en-tered in the Region I Tournament at Fargo. The Cardinals swept through the regular season with only one defeat, that being a 67-53 loss to Kulm. In compiling a 19-1 season record, the Redbirds copped the champion- ship of the Kulm Tournament and tied for the Southeastern conference championship. In the Dis- trict Tournament at LaMoure, Ellendale took second place, losing to arch-rival Kulm in the cham- pionship game. The two losses to Kulm gave the Caros a 21-2 record for the year. These losses were avenged by two wins over Kulm. Ellendale was ceded either first or second in the Regional and met West Fargo in their first game. Results of this game were not available as the "Micro- phone" went to press. The Baby Cardinals, coached by Orlo Sundre, promised good teams for the future as they swept through a 14-game schedule unbeaten in 1957-1958. Combining good height and ex- cellent ball-handling, the "B" squad easily overcame all opposition. Since the Baby Card's wins came over the top "B" squads of the area, it is believed that Ellendale High School will continue to produce top "A" squads for some years to come.
