ALMA MATER
In a valley wide commanding
mountain, lake, and sky,
Proudly stands our Alma Mater
stands Elko High.
Elko High, to thee forever
We will loyal be,
Faithful to our Alma Mater
Hail all hail to thee!
As the years pass swiftly o'er u
We will turn to thee,
As our guide and inspiration
Distant though we be.
Elko High, to thee forever
We will loyal be,
Faithful to our Alma Mater
Hail all hail to thee!

MESSAGE FROM THE SUPERINTENDENT
OF SCHOOLS
Many improvements have been made at
Elko High School, but the most important and
conspicuous one is the change tor better in
the tone and flavor ot student lite. There is
more respect for good teaching and learning.
There is a greater number ot individuals who
are making plans for the successful lite. More
students have noble purposes and have led the
way. The cadence has been set by student
leaders who have set so many good examples
and by well qualified teachers who have
given liberally of time and talent. Business
people and home folks have shown genuine
interest, too, in high quality instruction at
Elko High School.
It is a pleasure to be a member ot a team
composed ot teachers, students, and other
citizens who strive to point the way.

SENIORS
When we first came through the massive doors of E.H.S. our eyes were as big as
saucers. We were, of course, typical scared Freshmen, However, we were enthusiastic
about our new life and co-operated fully with the upperclassmen, but at the same time
remained as independent as before. Our initiation wasn't too bad and we can truth-
fully say, "We would not trade white-washing the "E" for any other experience.
We were better informed and even more ardent about school functions our Sopho-
more year. We set a new pace in assemblies when we presented our different but well
organized and famed Sophomore Assembly'
In our Junior year, like all previous classes, we sponsored the annual Junior Prom
and Junior Play. Our memorable play was Qentlemen Prefer Blondes. The play itself
was not perhaps the masterpiece of Elko High but the cast members had kicks Our
Junior Prom was magnificent, gorgeous, and wonderful' The theme was Sayonara and
hours were spent making cherry blossoms and even more time went into final prepara
tions Never forgotten will be the bridge we walked across for the Grand March and
the fierce dragon which adorned the east wall
Our Senior year can also be termed as Most Successful Our play A Man Called
Peter, and our Christmas Senior ball will never grow dim Homecoming, Thanksgiving
Christmas, Easter, semester tests, assemblies, football and basketball trips zone,
homework, arguments, riding around, and classes were all attended and done for the
last time
We could write pages about our reign at Elko High but instead we would like to
pass on some valuable lessons we learned in our four short years To the Freshmen,
Sophomores, Juniors respect the rules and traditions of our Alma Mater, never disgrace
its name or that of your parents by acting foolishly or behaving in a manner which will
be degrading, study hard be curious, and get all you can out of your studies, be
humble but have lots of fun

JUNIORS
The year of i958-1959 was most successful for the Juniors. The annual Junior
Prom and the Junior play were thoroughly enioyed by all who attended.
There were several Junior students that held important positions in Elko High.
Among them were Alice Swainston and Deanna Andersen as Varsity Cheerleaders.
Pat Landell represented us in the Student Body as Student Body Vice President,
Roxane Jensen served as assistant editor of the yearbook and Mary Rossolo and
RaNae Gilligan as assistant business managers. Assistant editor of our school
paper, The PowWow, was Alice Swainston.
Under the guidance of Miss Wolfe and Mr. Huhn our class officers ardently
served. They were DelRoy Jones, President, Ted Burner, Vice President, Alice
Swainston, Secretary, Deanna Andersen, Treasurer, Henry lspisua and Sandra Evans,
boy and girl representatives.
We certainly had a lot of fun this year, but we are looking forward to being
the "mighty" Seniors next year.

SOPHOMORES
The Sophomores hit the campus of old E,H.S, in September as well seasoned
students.
This year our accomplishments increased in number under the direction of Mr.
Boyer and Mrs. Norman, class sponsors. Our class officers were Lee Lyons, Presi-
dent, Butch Gardner, Vice President, Rich Echegaray, Secretary, Darlene Montrose,
Treasurer, Vickie Smith and Mike Mariluch, Boy and Girl Representatives.
Everyone worked hard to make our magazine drive a big success along with
other money making projects. Our assembly was also a job well done.
The class of '6l is well represented in the music department, G.A.A., F.H.A.,
and Language Club. We had two junior varsity cheerleaders, Blair Sawyer, Head
Cheerleader, and Karen Feasel .
Without a doubt it was a memorable year of hard work, fun, and pleasant ex-
periences.
FRESHMEN
We, the Freshmen, class of '62, have thoroughly enjoyed this, our first year at
E.H.S.
Our first taste of the high school activities began with the Freshman initiation.
The girls were ridiculously attired in their gunny sacks while the boys looked just as
funny in their outlandish garments.
The fighting spirit of the Frosh was proven when we won the coveted Curtis Sub-
scription Drive. As a reward we received a half day off from school which was cer-
tainly enjoyed by all.
Our class officers for this year were John Lloyd, President, Dave Wiggins, Vice
President, Marie Ellison, Secretary-Treasurer, and Charles Yeager and Lina Bilbao,
Representatives. Our capable sponsors were Miss Grise' and Mr. Laibly.
From the Freshman class came two of the junior varsity cheerleaders who were
Marie Ellison and Lina Bilbao.
With a successful year behind us we are anticipating an even better one as
Sophomores at E.H .S. '

lt seems impossible to cram a year s memories into one book but Gall Butler with help of
the Pohob staff has done a superb lob of it Gall should be congratulated on her unique and
original ideas She has definitely made this yearbook one of the best Elko has ever had
Also, Roxanne Jensen should be congratulated lm sure you ll do a terrific lob next
year as editor and the best of luck to you
Ra Nae Gllligan my assistant business editor, was always willing to work A million
thanks to you, Ra Nae
Sometimes a "Thank you" is not enough and this is the case with Miss Grise. Without
your diligent and patient help, the yearbook would be impossible.
The work on the Pohob started with the Curtis Magazine Subscription drive in which the
Freshmen showed their school spirit by taking first place.
Mr. and Mrs. Bert Fox, our photographers, then began taking class pictures. Mr. and
Mrs. Fox should be commended on the fine iob they did.
Last, but not least, a thank you to our advertisers. Your support is deeplyappreciated.
This yearbook is the highlight of the student body's school year. Although our hopes
and dreams exist in different horizons, the Seniors leave many fond memories in the halls of
E. H.S. In the years to come, these memories will again become a reality as we turn the
pages of the yearbook. The music and romance of dances, the suspense of football and bas-
ketball games, the anticipation in school plays, and the fun at picnics will again be re-
