MESSAGE FROM THE COUNTY SUPERINTENDENT
It is with pleasure that l commend the POHOB Staff for getting out this
splendid publication. The cross-section of school life portrayed in this publi-
cation well illustrates some of the finer aspects of local and school culture.
It is my hope that each boy and girl in Elko High School will continue his
fonnal schooling as far in life as his potential warrents. We have had a good
school year in somany respects that we know life is bright ahead and that the
future will have much for each of us.

MESSAGE FROM OUR PRINCIPAL
Everyone should strive to produce his best results.
These results should knowconstant effort toward improve-
ments. Sometimesindividual desiresmustbe subordinated
to the desires of a group if the group is to achieve its
goal.
Cooperation is the keynote of success in all en-
deavors which include many people. This is true in our
high school as in any other activity.
Let us continue to try to make our school the best
high school possible.

As luniors, we the class of i958 had a very successful year We once again elected Fred
Goldsberry as our president and he very ably carried us through our first year as upperclassmen
We also elected Louis Allred as our vice president, Renee Robertson, secretary treasurer, David
Allred, boy representative, and Dolores Bartorelli girl representative Our sponsors were Miss
Grise and Mr Undem
Our dances were all the neatest" of the year and were huge successes as was our Iunior
class play Our Junior Prom was the most beautiful ever presented at E H S
Our class was well represented in all fields music, athletics, drama, and scholastically
with several of our members receiving high honors in these fields.
Two of our members, Patty Comish and Karen Drollinger, added their pep, energy, and
voices to the varsity cheerleading squad.Cheryl Mohlman could be heard every Sciurday after
noon on the Campus Capers program asshe announced the happenings at school. Dolores Bartorelli
and Janice Crumley were the hard working assistant editor and assistant businessmanager of the
POHOB respectively. Don Wilkerson deserves special mention for capably fulfilling the duties
of Student 'Body Vice President.
We are eagerly looking forward to our senior year and we knowit will be twice as success
ful as our junior year.

SOPHOMORES! l I ! l
B statistical record, we as sophomores, have completed SOW: of our high school education.
This Loves us twice as smart as we were as freshmen and half as smart as we'll be as seniors in
"59l " So---we expect the future to have great things in store for us. Already we feel that we
have made many achievements to be proud of.
The boys of our class have shone in athletics this year. We take particular pride in the
number from our class who went out for football, basketball, and track. These fellows proved
that you can have both quantit and quality! Also three of the four J .V. Cheerleaders were from
our class. . ..Gail Butler, COTE! Sawyer, and Nancy Harris.
We also feel that scholastically we are makin strides forward . Each honor roll is frequented
by many sophomore names, and a good percent QT these are strai ht A students.
The music department contains man of our classmates, boar in band and the glee clubs.
The various clubs of the school such as IYHA, Lan uage Club, GAA, and FFA have discovered
that sophs make both good followers and good leaders.
A gay soph year may be attributed to our class officers: Bill Sutherland as president, Rich
Wilson as vice president,Cell Cave as secretary, and Gail Butler as treasurer. We were also well
represented in the Student Council by Carla Sawyer and Dick Shuck.lnvaluable encouragement
and advice has been supplied b our sponsors, Miss Wolfe and Mr. Brown.
No longer mystified but stilll enthusiastic,we enioyour ability to both look up and be looked
up to.

FRESHMEN! ! ! I I
We, the class of "60" have really put a year of work and fun behind us. We upheld the old
tradition of white-washing the "E" the first week of school.
Our class officers were: President, Moyal Kump, Vice President, Pat Landell, Secretary, Alice
Swainston, Treasurer, Fred Traher, Representatives, Deanna Andersen and Arnaud Samper. Mr.
Jordan and Mr. Mangus were our sponsors.
The class was well represented on the honor roll, in sports, and in the various organizations.
All indications point to the fact that several of our boys will be football and basketball heroes
within a few years.
Our year as Freshmen ended with a successful class party and the usual spring picnic.
Now we're all looking forward to being the next sophomore class of E.C. H. S.

We the hot and cold Induans of l956, early rn the football season were handed
a hard blow to our ego when Elko bowed to a strong Judge Memornal tean I9 6 Thus
was only a temporary phase, as we proved that we could really go places by scalprng
the Yerlngton Lyons to the tune of 21 6
On November thlrd, Elko s Homecomnng game, one of the most excltlng ganes
of the season, was played on Warrior Fleld A hard frghtlng team from the south, the
Lincoln Lynx, stayed ahead of us In three quarters of the game, finally surrendering
their lead to the Incllans In the closing minutes of play This contest as surely one whlch
wall be remembered ID the hearts of true football fans for a long tame to come as one of
the greatest homecoming games ever witnessed here
Much credit goes to head coach Floyd Edsall and assistant coach Willard Sulluvan
for theur able assistance and guldance throughout the year
The Jayvees, under the flne coaching of Austin Jordan, turned m a creditable
season of sux wlns and only one loss

Baalzetball
Though not a winning team, the Indians were a fighting bunch. The determin-
ation and spunk these boys have shown will serve as an example for Elko's future
basketball squads.
Under the critical eye of Coach Mentaberry, the varsity put in a fine season with
many rough practices and many hard-fought games.
The Jayvees, under the able coaching of Mr. Jordan, had a very good season.
They defeated some ofthe finest teamsinthe B Zone including the B Zone Champions.

As we come to the end of another POHOB, another school year is also terminated. I
hope that in future years you will cherish the many momentous events that will recur to you
as you look through the pages of this edition of the POHOB.
Many people helped to make this year's annual a success. I would like to thank them
now forthe fine support they gave us--the editorial, photography, and business staffs and
the many businessmen who have so generously submitted their advertisements Without these
people this yearbook would be nothing
Many thanks to MnssGrise, our sponsor, who seemed to know lust when we needed an
extra little push to get us over the hurdles Through her untirlng efforts and patience this
yearbook has been completed
