Through the years we have grown from shy Sophomores to spirited Seniors, taking part in many events in the history of E. H. S. As Sophomores we were shy but determined to achieve something. When the inter-class tournamens rolled around, we came in third , but had the best cheering section. We went on to redeem ourselves at the inter- class track meet by coming in second. Twenty girls represented Elking High School at Cedar Lakes, Ripley, West Virginia, for D. A. R. Camp. Members of our class reactivated the Drama Club at E. H. S. Our officers that year were as follows: PRESIDENT - Steve Jones CLASS COLORS - Navy and White VICE PRESIDENT - Jean Snedegar CLASS FLOWER - Carnation SECRETARY - Am1 Varchetto CLASS MOTTO - "On the youth TREASURER - Sherri Slayton of today lies the democracy CHEERLEADER - Cheryl Kepley of tomorrow." STUDENT COUNCIL - Jenneth Hammer, Martha Hill, Cheryl Kepley, Marcia Lohr, Ann Varchetto, Ann Wood Our junior year proved to be one of our most exciting and eventful. We had the Tiger Cub, our school newspaper. At the inter-class tournaments we came in third again, but won recognition for the best decorations The best display of our decorating ability, however, was shown in the Junior-Senior Prom, "Camelot. " The second semester we operated the candy store, chose our class rings, and helped with graduation. Our officers were as follows: PRESIDENT - Steve Jones JUNIOR COUNCIL - VICE PRESIDENT - Kit Leyland SECRETARY - Ann Varchetto TREASURER - Sherri Slayton CHEERLEADER - Sherry Sainato STUDENT COUNCIL Jenneth Hammer, Jefferie Brown, Marcia Lohr, Ann Wood, Sa Varcherto, Sherri Slayton, David Williams Now, as Seniors, we see our greatest and final year of high school ending. Aid is available in the form of scholar- ships, work-study programs, grants-in-aid, Federal Opportunity Grants and National Defense Student Loans. . Challenging curriculum . . . 21 major fields of study are de- signed to qualify students for immediate employment following graduation or for entrance to graduate school. Cooperative pro- grams are offered in forestry, engineering and nursing. Air Force ROTC is also available. . Highly qualified faculty . . . 25 of the 55 members of the faculty have earned Doctorates and nine of the remaining 31 have begun work on their Doctorate. .
