At the Mishawaka-Elkhart football game, the juniors sold candy. They also had a complete sell-out on pins of minia- ture football players. These two projects added to the funds we had begun saving for the prom. The ring and pin committee met on October 22, to se- lect a ring to be recognized as the Class Ring. Juniors on the committee were: Max Andress, Ruth Grauer, George Jackson, Mary Lavrich, Norma Johnston, Jane Clark, Evangeline Blubaugh. Bud Kelson, Edwin Landis, and Ber- nard Broadbent. A Jolly Junior Jubilee, with a musical theme, was the idea of the party held on November 19. 193 8. Besides games and dancing, a floor show was put on by members of the class. The Junior Class met on February 2, 193 9, and chose the following officers: President, George Jackson; Vice- President, Jane Clark; Secretary, Mary Lavrich; Treasurer, Dick Donovan; Social Chairman, Ruth Riblet and Dick Jackson. On March 10, the class play, Agatha ' s Aunt rocked the audience with laughter. The class sold candy at a basketball game in Februar - and also introduced the jitnev dance which was held in the gym. That semester the juniors entertained the seniors at the prom, held at the South Shore Inn, Lake Wawasee. The theme was a cotton ball, carried out in the decorations and favors. Hal Denman ' s orchestra provided music and a floor show preceded the crowning of the King and Queen — chosen from the senior class. As seniors, the class divided and the June Class elected these officers: President, George Jackson; Vice-President, Dick Lerner; Secretary, Marv Lavrich; Treasurer, Helen Simons; Social chairman, Dick Jackson. Mr. Smith acted as June class sponsor. The January officers were as follows: President, Jane Clark; Vice-President, Evangeline Blubaugh; Secretary, Phyllis Abel; Treasurer, Jack Salisbury; Social Chairman, Bud Nelson. Candy was sold at the last football game this year and also at the Washington-Elkhart basketball game. A Kid- die party, held in the cafeteria February 10, gave variety to the year ' s entertainment. Games, dancing, and refresh- ments were enjo cd bv all. The senior class was entertained at the junior prom held at the Hotel Elkhart en May 2 5, 1940. The senior play You Can ' t Take It With You , was given in the high school auditorium on May 9, 1940. Page Twenty-Nine

JANUARY OFFICERS Jane Clark Vvcsidcnt Evangeline Blubaugu Vicc-Prciidcnt Phyllis Abel Secretary Mrs. Avery Sponsor Jack, Salisbury Treasurer 1940 SENIOR CLASS HISTORY Still a group of bewildered, pathetic young things, the Sophomore Class of ' 40 was called together on October 6, 1937. It was decided that the classes would stay together until their senior year, with Mrs. Avery and Mr. Smith as sponsors. The officers elected were: President, George Jack- son; Vice-President, Pete Sarantos; Secretary, Mary Lavrich; Treasurer, Jane Clark; Social chairman, Evangeline Blu- baugh. At the Riley basketball game the following January, the class members sold candy with the Debate Club. A Farmers ' Party, held in the cafeteria on January 22, proved success- ful, with games and dancing as entertainment. In January, 193 8, Jane Clark became president; George Jackson, vice-president; Mary Lavrich, secretary; Evangeline Blubaugh, treasurer; and Ruth Riblet, social chairman. On April 29, a novelty Southern Hop boosted the interest in class parties. Bill Miller ' s orchestra played for dancing, games were enjoyed, and an interesting floor show plus re- freshments added attractiveness to the party. Paf e Tiventy-Eif ht
