The reconstruction of Elk Creek High School was under-
taken late this winter after a series of delays. It is
gratifying to observe new structures replacing the destruct-
ed and out moded ones.
The prevailing atmosphere is one of a fresh reawakening
of interest for a new Elk Creek High School dedicated to
education through the medium of proper facilities.
To those teachers and students who so deservingly are
to utilize these new facilities my we say: "Employ them
well, for you know what it is to be without them."

Hr. Silvers, in behalf of the ann al staff of
195h, we are honored to dedicate this annual to
you. You have rendered many services to the class
of 'SL as well as preceeding classes, for this the
community as a whole is indeed grateful. You have
served on the school board, attended our various
school parties, and given baccalauriate sermons
which are some of your most appreciated efforts.
However, the duties you have performed, perhaps
unnoticed, have contributed a great deal to this
comm nity. By this dedication we hope we have in
some way illustrated our deep appreciation of your
work.

le entered Elk Creek High four years ago
feeling proud and mighty until we heard of the on
coming initiation. Nevertheless, we survived the
traditional lipstick, etc. including the Freshman
Reception, that the Sophomores so willingly pro-
vided. After this, we got down to the business at
hand and elected class officers.
Our second year the initiation pleasure was all
ours. This was topped off with the Freshmen
Reception which was very successful. Having
gotten into the swing of high school life we were
able to cope with arising problems.
Now, as Juniors, we joined the higher society
of upperclassmenl le raised money in various ways
and with our savings we gave our first formal
dance--the Junior-Senior Prom. 'Wishing' was the
theme of our Prom that was held in a hall which
was decorated with a large wishing well in the
center of the floor.
This, our last year, we raised money by selling
Christmas cards. With this money we gave our last
dance-the Christmas Party with the customary
banquet preceeding the dance.
The days were happy ones as graduation drew
near. The Senior Sneak Day was observed in the
traditional manner as .was the exchange of
announcements and pictures.

This year our staff consisted of five members, two of
which served last year.
we started selling ads in September. Our advertising
manager did a very fine Job as we sold enough ads to enable
us to pay for our year books.
Our photographer, with the help of three others, sup-
plied us with more snaps than we have had in any previous
annual. I am sure we agree he has done an excellent job.
The assistant editor will be in charge of next year's
annual and I am sure she will do a good Job because of the
help she has given us this year.
The business details-correspondence, etc.--were sat-
isfactorily handled by our business manager, who also helped
with the typing.
Our advisor, Mr. Miranda, has helped us a great deal
by correcting all the layouts before they were shipped.
We have all worked together to try and make this the
best annual ever and I hope we have succeeded.

The school paper, the Hi-Times, had a membership of
five during the fall and four during spring semesters.
Papers were published on an average of three a month.
Jerry Yarwood was editor in the fall and Nelda Mackey
is to be commended for her fine work as editor during the
spring semester. Glen Gillaspy, as art editor, proved a
great asset to the paper and Mr. Mirande, the advisor, is to
be thanked for his help and co-operation.
Many compliments have been received in regard to the
paper and we hope we can continue to meet the reader's
expectations.

The dance band, that was organized here last
year, is progressing wonderfully at present. The
band includes eleven members and its instructor,
Mr. Miranda.
We have played for two dances thus far this
year and hope to play for many more in the future.
We have received many nice compliments on our
playing which makes us try all the harder to do
our best.

A-Team
This years squad started out strong by winning their
first game with Kelseyville and holding the strong Williams
championship team to a 31+-214 score. sun mrs fighting,
the Elks were defeated by Wheatland in a close contest. Then
traveling to Durham they picked up their first league vic-
tory of the year. Hard hit by injuries the Elks were unable
to defeat any of the remaining teams but still played hard.
Next year we will have a lighter but mrs experienced
team.

Cheer olzzaclem
This year, once again, the student body elected three
cheerleaders. Nelda Mackey was unanimously elected as head
cheerleader, partly due to the fact that she was one of the
cheerleaders last year and thus had more experience.
Dee Luce and Mavis Hayward are both Freshmen and are
very evenly matched.
They chose for their cheerleading outfits some very
pretty red -corduroy Jumpers with white nylon blouses.
These girls have attended all our games and their fine
spirits have encouraged our team to do its best at all

For the last two years the Elks have been playing good
baseball and have been winning a good percentage of the
games.
Last year we lost some of our first stringers, however
we have some good prospects this year.
Year before last the Elks took second place in league
standing. Last year we tied for third place and this year
we expect to do even better.

This year's track turnout is considerably smaller than
last year's. Only a few of last yea:-'s lettermen returned,
but with practice the team should be fairly strong.
Last season the team participated in two track meets.
The first was held at Princeton and the Elks won in all
three classes.
The next meet was a league meet and only four members
of the team participated. However, they managed to make
four points, Jerry White taking a third place in the 220,
and Glen Gillaspy a second in the 880. Bud Lafferty broke
the Elk Creek High School record in the A shot put, but was
unable to place in the strong competition. This year the
team hopes to do better in the meet.

To us fond msmoires are so dear,
Of this old Model A, which is pictured here,
You can see for yourself, for years it's rum true,
Went chuggin' along 'till the motor dropped through.
It's had some flat tires and once threw a rod,
Its breakdowns cost money, in fact by the wade,
The crank case leaks oil and the transmission whines,
But the lights and the horn are both working just fine
We have taken some Journeys in this Model A,
Which will long 'be remembered in a sentimental way,
To Junk this old car would just be absurd,
Don't believe me? Ask the owner, Mr. Bill Hayward!
