In our Health Program, we are
fortunate to have the services of a
Nurse, a Doctor, and a Dentist, as
well as a Physical Education In-
structor.
Formal Health Instruction is con-
centrated in the Sophomore year,
several times a week.
Physical Education, introduced
last year, has been in full swing for
the Sophomores, juniors, and Sen-

JUNIOR PROM
How we longed and waited for "Some
Enchanted Evening" to he spent on April
28, 1956 from 9 until 12 in the gym-
nasium.
Our theme was centered on the idea of
a southern plantation with a huge foun-
tain on the patio of the colonial man-
sion. One almost thought he was in the
heart of Dixie having an enchanted eve-
ning with favorite beaux and belles.
The King and Queen of our Prom
were Margaret Dornisch and james Fritz,
Both looked radiantly happy upon re-
ceiving the honor. For our musical en-
joyment we were serenaded by the "Rhy-
thm Makers."
The decorating committee included
Vesta Ifeldbauer, jean Herbst, Eleanor
Rupprecht, justine Garbic, I.aVern Lenze,
Michael Kronenwetter, Stanley Brock and
Robert Mallison.

MAY CROXVNING
A procession from class rooms preceded
the May Queen and her tourt to the lvase-
ment where an altar had heen prepared hy
the juniors, for May Clrowning. Alicia
Reuscher, May Queen, was attired in
white and tarried a corsage of white
chrysanthemums. Crown hearer was
Gretchen Spence. a freshman. Seniors

Eleanor hlames. Mary XY'eis. and Sopho-
mores Gwynne Schaefer and Martha Wfeb-
er tomprised her court. They were dressed
in spring pastels and carried daffodils and
green sprays.
The altar, with a blue plastic back-
drop, was decorated with haskets of gladi-
oli and vigil lights. When the students
arrived at the altar, Our Lady was
crowned by the May Queen and hymns
were sung in honor of our Blessed Moth-
er.
Reverend Father Donald, Principal, led
the prayers: the Litany of the Blessed
Virgin and a decade of the Rosary. He
addressed the assembly on devotion to the
Blessed Mother, drawing a parallel be-
tween an earthly queen and the Heavenly
Queen. Bringing out the need all have of
a mother, he urged every one to have con-
stant recourse to Mary.

FOOTSTEPS ON THE DIAMOND
The 1956 baseball season was, as it proved to be,
an immensely fruitless encounter for the Central
Crusaders as they saw a ten game slate slashed to
just a trio of inter-scholastic engagements. The reason
for the decisive cut was the prominent weather con-
ditions that prevailed so persistently throughout the
spring season.
Under the helm of Ed. Bridge, the Church Street
lads came out but once in three attempts.
Their initial outing at Bunker Hill found the
Crusaders handily tripped by the Kersey Buckeyes
7-0. The Clearfield Ponies took advantage of a
blemished defense to hand the Centralites a 4 to 3
setback ten days later.
Sonny Lenze capped the hapless season with a
spectacular display, exemplifying the Central capa-
bilities. Performing for the first time in ideal dia-
mond weather conditions, the lanky righthander
muffled the Kersey timberline as he yielded but a
single base hit, striking out 11 and walking 2.
Considerably helped by an 11-hit offense, paced by
jim Fritz, Pat Schaefer and Tub Hasselman, the
Crusaders coasted to an 8-O triumph.
Aspects for the '57 season look bright for the
Central nine as they sport a heavily veteranized
squad, suffering the loss of but three regulars.

Dribbling down the court
At this writing, which is prior to the completion of 22 of the two dozen scheduled en
gagements Qomitting playoffsj, the St. Marys Central Crusaders have a presentable 18
won and four lost ledger. Renovo was canceled and Erie Prep is yet to be played
Among the heights attained by the '56-'57 squad was the permanent possession of thc
prized Stackpole trophy, gained by virtue of a pair of triumphs over the Flying Dutch of
Public High. Aside from the City Championship the Crusader quintet can also boast of
having been victorious on 12 successive occasions before the Johnstown Crushers con
quered the pace-setting alma mater. The Centralites readily proved they belonged in
"Class A" on a most memorable January 6th as they proved superior to much heralded
Erie Cathedral Prep by a 55-51 margin.
Individually, Tub Hasselman has proved the main bulwark in the well-established
Crusader machine as the lauded forward pierced the orange disc for a total of 395 mark
ers, meriting 17.9 per game. Other point-getters are Renny Nicklas at 244, Sonny Lenze
with 196, Ray Rupprecht 151, and Jake Meyer 124.

Although volleyball saw a late beginning this year, it will long he rememherecl for the
