CRUSADERS 1951-52
The l95l-l952 baslcetball season saw the Crusaders turn in their best record ot the past five seasons.
Coached by Jim Goetz, Central won 20 and lost 4 in regular season competition.
Three ot the losses were at the hands ot Class A schools. Altoona handed Central their first loss 39-37,
but later in the season the Crusaders deteafred the same Altoona tive 56-35. Johnstown defeated the Blue and
Gold twice 66-35 and 49-39. The only Class B team to defeat Central was Oil City.
Central lost the service of Ed Bosniclc mid-way in the season due to a leg iniury. Ed was averaging 22
points per game before he was injured. Bill Fritz tallied 264 points, John Wiclcs 230, Ed Bosniclc 2l4, Don
Schneider l65, Andy Stautfer l55, and Dick Reuscher II3.
The Goetzmen again entered the Annual Diocesan Tournament held in Erie, March 7, 8, 9. The Crusaders
drew a bye. ln the quarter-tinals they defeated Clearfield 54-35, but in the semi-tinals, Greenville overpow-
ered the Blue and Gold, 50-36 lGreenville won the Tournamentl. Central then defeated St. John's ot Kanty
Prep 46-36, thus taking third place. The Crusaders' over-all record was 22 wins and 5 losses, losing only to
two class B schools.
We wish to thank Reverend Father Donald, our athletic director, Mr. James Goetz, our coach, Mr. Ramon Martin, assistant
coach, the cheerleaders, managers, and all who helped in the success ot this basketball season.
