Problem: of Democracy gfcktfofuy - 74a peut, Puaent ind ?atufze Uf Om From the Neanderthal man to Should the United Nations 'seat' Red China? our social studies department introduced us to the past, gave us an understanding of the present, and helped us to anticipate the future. At first, studying ancient wars, colonial treaties, and the depression years' economic failures seemed a waste of time. However, the pattern slowly formed to act as a guide for a more complete understanding of our present difficulties. It was in our senior year's problems of democracy course that we were able to very realistically correlate all that we had learned in previous years using it to teach us better citizenship and the art of getting along in our modern world. -w-iv, NAOMI R. We were exposed to complicated mazes of geometry, algebra and trigonometry with the physics course stressing a blend of math and science. Taking math was more than just learning to work problems mechanically. Algebra was helpful in chemistry where formula writing was prominent. Trigo- nometry was a must for physics. Knowing how to use a slide rule was indispen- sable for working the long, complicated problems in either advanced chemistry or physics. Now we know for a fact-l'Math teaches you to thinkf, STANLEY S. ELSIE G. CARE Nllmber, please? BS., Elizabethtown Collegeg M.A., Temple Univ. Burizzeu Edzzmtiwz 7gpdq, 5 , 2144431444 Soi 74l494f 76: 7060 74 getffkdd Through the doors of our business education rooms walked future stenogra- phers, secretaries, accountants and executives. Here the basic foundations for suc- cess in the business world were laid. Sixty words a minute! I'll never be able to make it!', we exclaimed and complained as we were beginning shorthand and typing. But practice finally made perfect and speedy our writing, as well as our transcribing. In bookkeeping, we learned the value of the lonely pennyg in math, we wrestled with discounts and markupsg and in operating business machines, we acknowledged that patience was a needed virtue. Through a trial school-work arrangement quite a few members of this de- partment have been given permanent employment by the close of school.
