Dedication
DR. SAMUEL P. HYDER was born and reared
in Carter County. He received his elementary edu-
cation in the Carter County Schools, and was grad-
uated from Elizabethlon High School. He received
his B.A. Degree from Carson Newman College,
his lVl.S. and Ed.D. Degrees from the University
of Tennessee, and has studied school administration
at Ohio State and New York Universities.
His teaching career has been dedicated to his
home county where he began in one of the most
remote one-teacher schools. He is guided hy the
dynamic philosophy that pulrlic education offers to
all youth opportunities to realize their potential.
His leadership is primed hy a never-ending desire
and an untiring effort to coordinate the talents of
his entire staff for the maximum growth and devel-
opment of the students of Elizahethton High School.
His genllemanly demeanor, professional skill and
devotion to his duties have won him the respect
and admiration of all the students ol EHS-for
which we dedicate this annual.

of our WHY OF LIFE. Whether it he writing
articles for student publications or playing
an instrument with the hand or competing
against classmates in intramurals. all serve
as wholesome Companions for studying and
learning. And there's something about a Club
initiation or lounging on the lawn that relieves

ganized in the spring of 1958.
Its purpose is to stimulate
effort. reward achievement.
and to encourage and assist
its members to continue their
educations after high school.
Membership is based on good
mentality and character, cred-
itable achievement. and com-
mendable attitude. The Eliz-
abethton High School Chapter
of National Beta has set a
scholastic average of 90 in
our high school as member-
ship requirement.
This vear's chapter has
thirty-one members. Eleven
seniors will proudlv display
the Beta gold seal on their

The one prerequisite for member-
ship is an enthusiasm for the work-
