After our four years at Elgin High School, we will find new and more important responsibilities in all parts of the country- North, East, South, or West. We will always remember the varied activities in which We participated at Elgin High. We will remember the capable faculty, without whose skill and patience we could not meet the innumerable responsibilities and obligations which will confront us as we take our places in society as citizens of the forty-eight states. The talents of some of us and the desires of others will spread us to the four corners of the nation. Their first appearance was the fall concert on October 21. Following this was the Christmas assembly and concert, and then the spring concert March 15. The string players took part in the 1948 District Concert, held April 3 at Crystal Lake. On April 26 the orchestra participated in the Fox Valley Music Festival. Tauno Hannikainen, the assistant director of the Chicago Symphony, was the conductor. The social activities consisted of attending a concert given by the Chicago Symphony in October and seeing a musical comedy, The Red Mill, March 5. The officers this year were president, Mary Tyrrellg vice-president, Patty Blackmang and secretary, Peter Gilles. 73 One of the most active groups of students in Elgin High School this past year was the A Cappella Choir. The choir, under the direction of E. Arthur Hill, presented music at school con- certs, Elgin churches, clubs, assemblies, and numerous concerts outside ot school. They also took part in the Fox Valley Music Festival on April 26. lt is one ot the highlights of each year. The choir, which is the most advanced vocal group in Elgin High School, gives a good opf portunity for solo work as Well as group work. This past year there were about 56 members, The otficers chosen were Bob Kerber, presi- dentg Mary Moody, secretary-treasurerg and 11m Monroe, librarian. The accompanists were Virginia Lightbody and Barbara Miller, Vernon Studt is assistant accompanist. A Cappella Agamst the Chnstmas background Ollf 1 Il 1 I I0 I gh!
