The district playoff at Elgin found the Huskies slipping by Condon by a score of 13 -6. Championship fever rose as Elgin came up with their best performance of the season winning a semi-final game over Merrill 25-0 on the Husky Field. In the championship game on Husky Field against Jefferson, Elgin met a fine ball club which were no strangers to championship play. Both teams played well with Jefferson becoming the state champions by a score of 31-6. ' Coach Miller was selected to coach in the Shrine Football game at Pendleton. Going with him to play were Bud Scoubes, quarterback, Brian Reed, guardg and Glen McDonald, center. Tim Martin, senior tackle was named as an alternate on the team. Paced by the excellent play of all-league and all-district "Bud" Scoubes and the rebounding of steady Brian Reed, the Huskies extended their home court victory to 24 before bow- ing to the Eastern Oregon College JV's. The Huskies in three years under Coach John Heriza com- piled a record of 52 wins and 18 losses. To State Meet Six new State Girls Track Meet records and three National records were set at the Girls State Track Meet held in Springfield. The Elgin High School relay team of Jo, Susie and Marilyn Clark and Peggy Wilhelm was the only B school entry to make the finals in any running event. The girls ra.n the fastest time that they have made for the year and were still 2. 1 seconds under Medford's first place squad with a 53.4.
