MARGARET CHENEY The 1959 edition of Husky Tracks is dedicated to Mrs. Margaret Cheney who has been the head of our home economics department for the past eight years. Her abilities as a home-making instructoi combines with her kindly qualities as a counselor and friend have caused her to be held in high regard by the students and personnel of Elgin Schools. We wish her the best of luck in her new position and assure her that she will always have a place in the hearts of those with whom she has worked. 1Musky Seated left to right: Janet Osburn, Sandy White, Ellis Cheney, Darrell Cason, Mrs. Edwards, Advisor; Jana Holowitz, Jordyce Tameris. Standing: Wavel Hunt, Editor; Glenn Standley. 1959 Mnual Staff We trust that we have placed within these pages a story of life within Elgin High School for the year 1958-59. It hasn't been easy—competing with all the other activities—and finding time to schedule a session to "work on the annual." But, "little by little" we have gathered together "something to remember"—so that in years to come you may re-live these memories and cherish them. Gale Beals, left, general manager of Mt. Emily Lumber Company stands with school Superin- tendent Ray B.Osburn of Elgin at the site of Elgin's athletic field of the future. The field is part of a 12-acre tract donated to the school district by the Valsetz-Mt. Emily Lumber Company. With the use of a large dirt moving machine furnished by the Mt. Emily Lumber Company and donated labor of both the company and the City of Elgin, the landscaping and smoothing of the field was done in a short time. The Union Pacific Railroad, through local agent Tom Burton, gave the school district top soil along the right-of-way near Rhinehart. When all work is completed, the football field and softball diamond will be turfed, and it is hoped an automatic watering system can be installed. A circular 440-yard track will be constructed—it will have a 220-yard straight stretch. Parking space will be provided at both ends of the new school building. A baseball diamond will be provided at the west edge of the property and eventually lights, now at Husky field, will be moved to the yet unnamed athletic area. 62 Autographs 63Vir . r ■% v «w t V%, 1 r JyV Cx V l f— VS 0 K 4£.
