A TRIBUTE TO EDUCATION
THE SCHOOL BOARD IN ACTION
This job is mostly volunteer. They know that issues will arise.
These men and women care That conflicts will ensue.
Enough about their schools each year That lazy folks will criticize
To face the problems there; The job they try to do;
Yet, with a better school in mind,
(A goal that must be won)
The school board leaves mere talk behind
And ACTS to get things done!
The administration of education ultimately rests with the citizens of the community.
Following this tradition in American Education, the citizens of our community elected a school
board who have worked continually to bring the best in education to the community of Elgin.
Reflecting the views of the community, an example of their work resulted in the move into our
new high school building early in 1958.
We of Elgin High School are proud of the citizens of Elgin and their representatives.

Prom and Banquet
The Junior Class chose an oriental theme and transformed the
gym into an "Oriental Garden" for the annual Junior-Senior Prom.
As usual the members of the Senior Class were guests. The gym was
decorated in red, black, and white crepe paper. A wishing well was
placed in the middle of the floor. Located at one end of the building
was a tea house, where refreshments were served. A mural depicting
a Chinese girl was placed on the wall.Junior Class

A CRANPE AutographsAutographsAutographsSOUNDPROOF EDUCATION BEGAN THURSDAY
One hundred and sixty high school students,
with accompanying teachers, books, and pleasant
looks, took their exodus of old Elgin high school
and continued their education without a break. Teach-
ers report the students were very co-operative in
making the move to the new school. It was accomp-
lished smoothly and efficiently.
What made the most impression on the stu-
dents and teachers? It wasn't the big rooms, the
shiny paint, the new desks or big windows. The
real "new" thing was the silence. Instead of a roar-
ing bedlam of voices trying to be heard above clang-
ing lockers, during class changes, there was a
subdued hum as the students moved from class to
class.
