The girls were very fond of her and they appreciated her cooperation. Captain Melba "Butch" Mulkey, star spiker. with the help of her team mates defeated the Holliday Eagles 15f133 15-11. Melba's ever-lasting loyalty to the team inspired the players to go on when the outlook seemed very dim. Melha has received her third letter this year. Mildred "Notorious" Nolton, spiker, received her first letter this year. She played hard but Valley View won by the score of 15-133 10-15, 15-8. She is to be back next year. Lois "Sleepy" Sessums, a backhand spiker, came into the group at mid-term, greatly strengthening it. She was in there fighting- until the last minute when the Burk Bulldogs defeated the Tigerettes 15-8, 15-10. She has received her first letter this year. Adelia "Speed" Bruce spiker, played hard. Her serve, hard and snappy, brought home many a point in the game in which Valley View defeated the Electra team 15-75 15-8. Frances "Grady" Bailey, a good all-round man, was freshman star of the group. She is a strong player and next year we look for her to do big things. Frances worked as hard did the players on the court when Electra defeated Iowa l'ark 15-11g 15-8. Co-captain Helen "Little Audrey" Hardgrove, short spiker, went down fighting when they were defeated by the Holliday Eagles 6-14, 15-10. llelen's hard serve scored several points for the li. ll. S. team. She received her second letter this vear. Frances "Fran" Davenport, set-up man, has received her second letter this year. Fran's tricky left spike fooled players from every town. The team was defeated by the Burk Bulldogs 9-15: 15-73 15-8. Billy Dean "Slow" King, set-up man, has re- ceived her second letter this year. She plans to re- ceive another next year. Her swooping serves brought home the scores in the game in which the Fairview Bears defeated the team 15-85 15-11. Louise "Shorty" Smith, set-up man, has re- ceived her second letter this year. Louise seemed to be sitting on the floor more than she stood when the team was defeated by the Fairview Bears 15-43 15-7. Her favorite play was the "pick- up". Doris "Red"' Lightner, not pictured above, was the most loyal member of the team. She was always ready to take the hard licks. She will he back next year.
