This post is filled very competently by Father Dirr. Even though this was only his second year in the office, he has won the admiration and respect of the student body. XVC like to think of Father Dirr as a close friend rather than the Assistant Principal. Tltrouglt his interest in the students and their problems. and his knowledge of the ways of the world, he has helped many of the fellows to prepare for their later lile. Under the direction of Mr. jacob -lung, the band provided the public with entertainment during half-time. Among the best features was the "Salute to Sousa" presented at Dayton Chaminade. During this showing, the band formed the outline of the Nation's Capitol, the American Flag, and a Crown. The public demanded a repeat performance, so at the VVest-Hi game the same feature was presented. Other half-time ceremonies included the "Man Upstairs" at Roger Bacon and at the double header the band presented its majorettes. Besides football games, the band participated in the Holy Name Parade and the Spring Coneert, held at Seton on May 6. 'l'he forty-two members, the six majorettes, and drum major Wilbur Miller, put in a tough season, and through their efforts the band became one of the top activities at Elder. FOUTBALL The football team began practice in August with the goal of winning all ten games. Although it seemed like a dream at that time. it became more of a reality with each succeeding game. Everyone practiced hard and played hard and the team was blessed with an absence of serious injuries. As a result of this effort and the fine coaching the team was able to accom- plish something that had eluded an Elder football team since the school began, a perfect season. As one person remarked, this team will be remembered as long as Elder School stands. and maybe longer ' f 7' 1. .W vm ff 1 W ff W' fff wig , f WK-irsg 12555, fo ' F. TRACK The track team although in dire need of upperclassmen still showed marvelous signs of spirit and sportsmanship. It was coached by Mr. Virgil Scardina. Not too much praise but quite a bit of work seemed to be the code of the track team. Practice was held every night during the season, and all members of the team were faithful.
