M.A. FHRElllEll Four of Elder's most talented and experienced teachers have departed this year to carry on the work of Christ in various other fields. Seemingly, it was a very short time that they taught at Elder, and yet it proved quite long enough for them to become endeared to all of us. They fulfilled their duties so efficiently. and their interest in Elder was so whole-hearted that admiration for them was commanded. Quickly we learned to value their wisdom and to respect their opinions. It is certain that the good guidance and the worth- while education which they provided will not easily be forgotten. Farewell. Reverends Buchheit. Redman. Ahr. and Griese. Your work at Elder has indeed been faithful, effective, admirable. May your success be great in your new endeavors, And may you always remember Elder just as Elder will always remember you. U.lElC0ll1E ln the nightly darkness sometimes a fiery sphere is seen. spanning the black spacial voids with a momentary arch of light, Its flaming splendor flashes through heavenly regions toward some mysterious terminal. Quickly it vanishes, perhaps never to reappear. Yet prodigious is the awe it has fixed in human minds. In like manner priests speed through the scholas- tic universe of Elder. They pass, illuminating puerile hearts and intellects with the resplend- ence of their virile virtue. Then they depart on their sacerdotal course toward eternity. However a twinkling trail of word and example remains to guide the souls of Elderites into the Orbit Whose center is everywhere and Whose circum- ference is nowhere. This year four youthful comets of Christ, Fathers Caserta, Putnick, Schroeder, and Seaman have initiated their volant journey through Elder. We joyfully greet them. May they long illumine this school by the glimmer of their piety and may they leave a path of honor behind them as their predecessors have done. Rev. Angelo Caseria, A.B. Rev. Elder started moving again. and with Ranz doing most of the running and passing, drove to the Hughes 4-yard line only to be halted. The fine defensive play of Brossart. Poettker Gravett and Robisch were a great help to the Panthers. ST. XAVIER G. BLDER 0. In its first league game of the season, Elder lacked the necessary punch. and as a result. dropped a 6 to 0 decision to the St. X Bombers. at Xavier Stadium on Nov. 5. After stopping a Xavier attack on their own 14-yard stripe. Elder started a march toward the X goal line. It was Hirth who moved the ball up the field with off-tackle plays and end runs picking up 4 first downs to the Xavier 19, only to have the gun sound for the end of the half. Xavier scored the one and only touchdown in the game in the last quarter as the result of an intercepted forward pass, followed by two first downs. Bob Gerdson on a quick-opening play went 26 yards for the touchdown. Perhaps the main reason Elder lacked the necessary punch was that Frank Brossart, one of the best blockers and defensive players in the city was FO0TBFlll xnyured early ln the game He contmued nn the game but hls myury hmdered hlm from playmg hls usual flne game Credlt IS certainly due to Brossart for remalnlng ln the game under such a severe handicap ELDEH 26 BACON 0 Xavier Stadium was the scene
