In September of 1946 emght Freshmen walked up the hall of
Elbert I-hgh They were Harry Tweedy Dxck Clxne Jeanxne Kehrwald
Carleen Ward Frances Malloy Jean Brolher Betty Bolejack and
Betty Peterson
In 1947 and 1948 our class lost two boys when Harry Tweedy qunt
school and Dick Clme moved to Colorado Sprmgs We were than old
hands and looked anxzously toward our last two years
In 1948 and 1949 we enrolled a newcomer Kenneth Burns whrle
Jean Brollier was lost from our ranks
In the last year of our school hrstory only three of us remam
graduate as we have now lost Jeanrne, Kehrwald Betty Bolejack, and
Kenneth Burr1s
As Junrors we gave the Semors thexr farewell shove wrth a banquet
at the Acacla Hotel rn Colorado Sprmgs
Ne have known many happy days whnle enrolled at our Alma Mater

Our crystal bowl now tells of the latest event xn the sporting
world M1ss Betty Peterson has just returned from a big game trlp
to the Amazon where she captured a new specxman of wrldlxfe un
known to the c1v1l1zed world She also announced her forthcomlng
marrrage as she landed 1n New York

The one set plsy contest was held at Elbert, November Z2 1949 There
were six one sct plays gzven by the followu-rg schools Agate, Bennett Deertrsxl
Elizabeth Kxawa, and Elbert.
The judge was Robert Loper Dlrector of Plays at Colorado Umvex-sity
Elberts play Young Axnerxca won the contest The cup had each of
the players names on xt
The actors m the play were Lois Burgess Kent De Priest Allen Gresham,
Jerome Ehlers, and Dsle Royston

The E H S Bulldogs started the fall baseball season off on the wrong foot,
losmg to Elxzabeth at Ehzabeth four to three Our fxrst home game saw us emerge
v1ctor1ous over Klowa nxne to s1x Next trip to Deertrall proved d1sastrous as we
were defeated twelve to slx It was a ramy day the fxeld muddy and a lad tnp home
We Int the wmn column agaxn as we avenged our earlxer defeat to Elxzabeth, s1x to two
at Elbert Our last game was another loss to Deertraxl four to three, at Ehzabeth
We are loolung forward to thxs Spruxg and our flrst chance to wear our new
uxuforms M1lton A and Carl V w11l be our batterxes and wxth the assnstance of
our entxre team we should wm several games
Basketball
At the begmmng of the year The Bulldogs were as green as grass and had nothxng
but bad luck resultmg from lack of experxence The team has greatly xmproved durxng
the season and whxle we had no luck 1n any of the tournaments. we dxd manage to wrn
three games to date
Now that another season IS closmg we have our s1ghts set for next year when
we w1ll be able to use our expenence and gaxmng conhdence wxth great enthusiasm

SCHOOL PAPER SUBSCRIPTION PARTY
November 4 1949 was a big celebratxon for Elbert I-hgh School
The glrls beat the boys xn a school paper subscrrptlon contest mn whrch
the gxrls out sold the boys th1rty one to e1ght
The losxng sxde gave a party for the wmnxng slde therefore the
boys treated the glrls The party was held at the Ten Sleep Ranch
four m11es South of Elbert where both sxdes enjoyed the festxvrtxes
Spaghett1 and coffee were on the menu and games and dancmg completed
the program
CANTATA
The g1rls of Elbert Hlgh School gave an exchange assembly at
Ehzabeth Tuesday December 20 1949 The name of the Cantata

A dmner party wlth turkey as the mam bill of fare was held
Thursday mght January 26 1950 at the schoolhouse Mr and Mrs
St John and Don were our hosts and the evemng was enjoyed to 1ts
fullest by all
The dmner was delrcxous and the gang was so full they had to
s1ng before they could dance and Mr Frey conducted some danclng
games zn between our regular sets The muszc was also contrrbuted
by our hosts and an excellent selectlon was played
