SPORTS
The l9h9-50 sports year was a successful season. We did not achieve
first place in all the sports, but we were always near the top. The
boys should be congratulated on their team sp1rit,perseverance, and ex-
cellent sportsmanship which stayed with them throughout the season. Here
are the fine records compiled by the teams.
Volleyball
For the third consecutive year, Elba won the area volleyball cham-
pionship. Previous to last year all schools participated in one tour-
nament. In l9h9, however, the schools were classified into two leaguesg
the A and AA schools and the B and C schools. The class C and B games
were held on different nights with the winners to meet for the finals.
In class C, Elba defeated Kendall 15-1 and 15-9. Lyndonville fell 15-5
and 15-h, enabling us to play the class B winners. We met Alexander and
overpowered them 15-3, l6fh, and 15-12, to win the league championship.
We then journeyed to John Marshall school in Rochester to compete
against the B C schools in Section 5 for the district title We met
Victor and defeated them 15 6 and 15 5 Scottsville fell 15 3 and 15 5
We overpowered York 15 7 and 15 5 enabling us to reach the finals
m t Interlakin and we completely overwhelmed them, 15 l and 15 7
becoming the Section 5 B C volleyball champions
