SENIOR PLAY
On November 15, 1946, the Seniors presented their annual play. This
play was a comedy-drama, the first of its kind ever produced in Elba.
According to the critics, it was one of the most successful plays present
ed in our school.
The setting of the play was the home of Eloise Baxter, a confident,
efficient, determined, old maid. Edith Meadows her gay and irrespon-
sible sister, had promised to care for a young orphan, Elnora Guilford.
Before the day came for the child to arrive, Edith had accepted an in-
vitation to visit Mexico. She managed to persuade the indignant Eloise
to take the girl until she returned from her trip. The sharp tongue and
unyielding attitude of Eloise might have driven the young orphan away,
had it not been for the understanding Dr. Travis, a physician and friend
of the family. Dr. Travis' loving kindness helped the girl to become ac-
customed to Eloise's sternness. As the play proceeded, Eloise learned
to love the girl and struggled to have the town accept her. The play end-
ed happily with the Doctor and Eloise marrying, thus providing a home
for Elnora.
