FOREWORD
As science sends rockets toward the heavens
in an unceasing effort to grasp the unknown,
we, in our own way, continue a never-ending
search for knowledge.
Space and its infinite scope correspond to
the unlimited possibilities of our future as
citizens of the universe

.lunior Prom
The Junior Prom sponsored by the class of V.
56 was o huge success.
The theme, Trade Winds , was carried out
beautifully with much hard work from the class
of 56 , their parents, and the faculty. Every-
one enioyecl dancing to the fine music of the
Elliot Brothers band.
A warm breeze, a full moon and a flow-
ered bedecked pool added to the success
of the evening. Many of those attending
the prom stopped dancing long enough to
enioy the refreshments.

SCHOOL BOARD EL SEGUNDO UNIFIED SCHOOL DISTRICT
STANDING: Julia Wainscott, Jack Garinger, Charles Barker, Roger B. Everly. SITTING:
Alexei Maradudin, Kenneth Benfield, William Thompson, Wilho Martin.
'YS-
Many problems have arisen as our high school has
literally doubled in size.
Individually you have had an opportunity to
face one of lite's greatest challenges - adapting
yourself to change. Change must come to all, but
some underlying principles learned early in life make
this transition to change easier. Thus loyalty to your
school can be developed into a personal loyalty to
your home, your work, and your lite. Without loyalty,
this outstanding Annual could not have been pub-
lished.
May this loyalty permeate your life and make
everyone proud that you have been a member of
the Class of '56.
ROGER B. EVERLY
Superintendent
In the years to come this outstanding yearbook will
provide a source of many memories of your school
days at El Segundo High. It will recall to mind the
friendships, opportunities, the problems and the
success of these days. lt will remind you that the
faculty was proud of the Class of l956, and wished
them every success for the future.
WARREN MAC QUEEN
Principal
Each class that graduates from El Segundo High
School leaves behind its own special work. Classes
that follow will remember the Class of '56 for its
fine spirit and your individual academic and athletic
achievements. These some qualities which have
helped so much towards your success in school will
assist each of you to attain your separate goals.
JAMES R. RIEWER
Vice Principal
We sincerely wish each member of the fine Class of
1956 success and happiness. We wish for each of
you the kind of success which brings happiness and
contentment.

Student
The first semester Student Council has been an
active one. They have sponsored such activities
as assemblies, football games, and many other
activities.
The most important problem the Student Coun-
cil faced this year was the raising of funds for a
foreign exchange student-a very important step
in student relationship.
Sitting: N. Almgren, R. Randel, D. Ingram, G. Osterberg, B. Wood, M. Giannini,
Y. Mayer, M. Reinhardt, L. Reeder, L. Sheldon. Standing: F. Olsen, B. Allen, A. Well,
K. Holden.
ff..
Council
With the adoption of a new committee, Student
Council has taken a long neglected burden from
its shoulders-that of constitutional revisions. The
Judicial Committee, under Bob Allen, is now re-
vising the Constitution to fit a student body of
1000.
With the passing of time many subiects come
before Council each to have its own destiny.
MIKE REINHARDT
Sitting: K. Swarfhe, Y. Mayer, L. Forest, M. Giannini, L. Sheldon, D. Ingram, J. Foley,
A. Well, L. Reeder, L. Dodson, Standing. F. Olsen, Mr, Riewer, M. Reinhardt, L. Thomas.

Colden Eagle
Following the trend for bigger and better things, the
i956 Golden Eagle staFF proudly submits this annual.
Three features included are: the use of spot color, duo-
tones and the increase in size.
We hope this yearbook will recall the many memories at
El Segundo High School.

COACH MORRIS
This year's Varsity Basketball team, coached by
Mr. Morris, has shown.a lot of hustle and the
desire to win. The team, composed mostly
of sophomores and iuniors, was lacking
in height and experience. Despite this
handicap, the Eagles scored third
highest in the league, but won
only five out of twenty two
games.

The El Segundo J.V. Basketball team concluded a sensational season, taking
a second place in the pioneer league. They missed first place by a one point
loss to Beverly Hills. The Eagles showed spirit and a lot of fight all through
the season.

COACH SAARI
Swimming Water Polo
Senior Chick Mcllroy climaxed a brilliant High School
aquatic career by establishing a new, water polo, high-
point scoring record tor the Eagles. Other seniors who con-
tributed much to the season's success were: Chad Long,
Tom Green, Jack Campbell, Brent Lake, Fred Johnson, and
Phil Lawrence. Outstanding performances were noted by,
underclassmen, Ned Mcllroy, Dennis Rounsaville, Jay Miller,
James Phillips, Ross McKinnon, Bill Denny, and Freshman,
Denny Weldon.

llroy, D. Clair, P. Lawrence, T. Green, K. Miller.
The l956 swimming season unveiled a very strong Eagle varsity. Although there was a tremendous
growth in CIF swimming competition, El Segundo was again one of the leading contenders.
The Eagles displayed their power in February in winning the Annual CIF Swimming Relay
Championships over 30 school and establishing three CIF relay records.
The team has an outstanding group of seniors in Chick Mcllroy, Chad Long, Phil Lawrence,
Fred Johnson, Brent Lake, Kay Miller, Jack Campbell, and Tom Green, but much of the season's
success has been due to the added strength of the sensational sophomores Ned Mcllroy, Dennis
Rounsavelle, Ross MacKinnon, Jay Miller and Bill Denny, and a brilliant freshman performer, Denny
Weldon.

The El Segundo Varsity Water Polo team enioyed another very successful season with an overall
record of 13 games won and two lost against the strongest competition in CIF water polo history.
Participating in the Free Lance League, The Eagles had a 7-l won-lost record, tying for the
league championship with the powerful Whittier Cardinals. El Segundo dunked Whittier 15-9 in
the local pool, but were edged out lO-ll in the Whittier tank. Both teams qualified for the CIF
Playoffs and went all the way to the finals. The i955 CIF Championship was decided in a thrilling
final game at Long Beach with Whittier coming from behind to edge El Segundo 10-8.
