The theme, Trade Winds , was carried out beautifully with much hard work from the class of 56 , their parents, and the faculty. Every- one enioyecl dancing to the fine music of the Elliot Brothers band. A warm breeze, a full moon and a flow- ered bedecked pool added to the success of the evening. Many of those attending the prom stopped dancing long enough to enioy the refreshments. vxcz, , Q x X N xwv , xfi xx X . N V555 wg x. ., ADMI is .fix 3. 1 'raw-C s QE. Individually you have had an opportunity to face one of lite's greatest challenges - adapting yourself to change. Change must come to all, but some underlying principles learned early in life make this transition to change easier. Thus loyalty to your school can be developed into a personal loyalty to your home, your work, and your lite. Without loyalty, this outstanding Annual could not have been pub- lished. May this loyalty permeate your life and make everyone proud that you have been a member of the Class of '56. ROGER B. EVERLY Superintendent In the years to come this outstanding yearbook will provide a source of many memories of your school days at El Segundo High. It will recall to mind the friendships, opportunities, the problems and the success of these days. lt will remind you that the faculty was proud of the Class of l956, and wished them every success for the future. WARREN MAC QUEEN Principal Each class that graduates from El Segundo High School leaves behind its own special work. Classes that follow will remember the Class of '56 for its fine spirit and your individual academic and athletic achievements. These some qualities which have helped so much towards your success in school will assist each of you to attain your separate goals. JAMES R. RIEWER Vice Principal We sincerely wish each member of the fine Class of 1956 success and happiness. We wish for each of you the kind of success which brings happiness and contentment. Other seniors who con- tributed much to the season's success were: Chad Long, Tom Green, Jack Campbell, Brent Lake, Fred Johnson, and Phil Lawrence. Outstanding performances were noted by, underclassmen, Ned Mcllroy, Dennis Rounsaville, Jay Miller, James Phillips, Ross McKinnon, Bill Denny, and Freshman, Denny Weldon. Although there was a tremendous growth in CIF swimming competition, El Segundo was again one of the leading contenders. The Eagles displayed their power in February in winning the Annual CIF Swimming Relay Championships over 30 school and establishing three CIF relay records. The team has an outstanding group of seniors in Chick Mcllroy, Chad Long, Phil Lawrence, Fred Johnson, Brent Lake, Kay Miller, Jack Campbell, and Tom Green, but much of the season's success has been due to the added strength of the sensational sophomores Ned Mcllroy, Dennis Rounsavelle, Ross MacKinnon, Jay Miller and Bill Denny, and a brilliant freshman performer, Denny Weldon. Participating in the Free Lance League, The Eagles had a 7-l won-lost record, tying for the league championship with the powerful Whittier Cardinals. El Segundo dunked Whittier 15-9 in the local pool, but were edged out lO-ll in the Whittier tank. Both teams qualified for the CIF Playoffs and went all the way to the finals.
